Position Overview
A busy and growing New York plaintiff’s personal injury law firm is seeking an experienced Bodily Injury Settlement Negotiator to join our claims team. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with substantial experience handling bodily injury claims who understands how to evaluate cases, negotiate aggressively and professionally with insurance carriers, and maximize settlement value for injured clients.
The successful candidate will manage a substantial pre-litigation caseload and work closely with attorneys, paralegals, medical providers, clients, and insurance carriers to move cases efficiently toward resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and negotiate a high-volume caseload of plaintiff-side bodily injury claims from case development through settlement.
- Evaluate liability, damages, insurance coverage, medical treatment, and potential case value.
- Review medical records, diagnostic studies, operative reports, lost-wage documentation, and other damages evidence.
- Prepare cases for settlement negotiations and develop effective negotiation strategies.
- Communicate directly with insurance adjusters, supervisors, and defense representatives regarding settlement.
- Aggressively negotiate bodily injury claims while maintaining professionalism and protecting client interests.
- Review and respond to settlement offers and make recommendations regarding case valuation and negotiation strategy.
- Identify policy-limit opportunities, coverage issues, liability disputes, and matters requiring attorney involvement or litigation.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding claim status, settlement negotiations, and outstanding issues.
- Coordinate with attorneys and support staff to ensure cases progress efficiently and all necessary documentation is obtained.
- Maintain accurate and detailed case notes, negotiation histories, settlement figures, and follow-up dates in the firm’s case management system.
- Assist with obtaining settlement authority and facilitating the transition of resolved cases into lien resolution and settlement processing.
- Meet individual and departmental productivity goals while maintaining high standards of client service and file quality.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience handling bodily injury/personal injury claims strongly preferred.
- Prior experience as a plaintiff-side settlement negotiator, bodily injury claims adjuster, claims representative, personal injury paralegal, or similar position preferred.
- Strong knowledge of New York automobile liability and bodily injury claims.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate damages and negotiate meaningful settlements.
- Excellent verbal negotiation, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to confidently communicate with insurance carriers, attorneys, medical providers, and clients.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines.
- Detail-oriented, accountable, and capable of working independently while functioning as part of a collaborative claims team.
- Experience with personal injury case-management software is a plus.
Compensation & Work Location
This is a full-time, in-office position available at either our Queens Village, NY or North Babylon, NY office.
Salary up to $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated bodily injury negotiation experience.
