New Justice Services, Inc., is seeking a day-to-day, part-time bookkeeper located near downtown in Syracuse, New York, The hours are generally 20- 24 hours per week.
This is a one-person department that works closely with the agency Executive Director and reports directly to the agency Board of Directors. This position has a private office and is located with the Executive Team of the agency. There is private parking as well.
Duties:
This position is responsible for preparing the monthly financial statements and reporting to the board.
Managing accounts receivable and payable, invoicing, cash receipts, preparation of bi-monthly payroll – all aspects of an accounting department with QuickBooks software, along with various letter/memo writing.
Performs internal audits on accounts, payrolls, invoices, and expenditures to prove mathematical correctness. The accountant will be responsible for the preliminary preparation for our annual audit with our Auditing firm.
Assisting in the creation of a timely budget each year for internal use along with various budgets needed to present to grant providers. Providing monthly and quarterly reporting to agency funding sources along with any communication required to our grant providers along with any amendments needed.
Proficiency in Excel and Word are required. Our work environment is one where hard work and honest feedback amongst team members is the norm.
HR duties for tracking PFL and insurance applications and changes.
Required Skills:
Good comprehension of accounting principles and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to accounting transactions.
Understanding of the general principles of public finances administrations including budgeting and financial reporting.
Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of some complexity, along with the capability to follow intricate oral and written instructions.
The accountant will assist in the organization’s interaction with external colleagues, auditors and bank representatives.
The individual will also play a very important role in annual CPA audit preparation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State with an Associates Degree along with 5 years’ experience in accounting or Financial reporting. Equivalent experience will be taken in to consideration.
- Financial reporting is defined by the preparation of reports such as estimated income; profit/loss statements; bank reconciliation; income determination; asset and-equity valuation; financial statement analysis.
Education: Associates Degree - Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred). Equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience: Accounting: 5 years (Preferred) non-profit: 5 years (Preferred but not required)
