Position Summary:
The Medical Lab Technician’s job is to follow lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient results. This position is for a Physician Office Laboratory (POL), it is part time with approximately 20-25 hours per week as well as additional coverage-based hours available.
Qualifications:
ASCP Medical Laboratory Technician Certified with at least 5 years’ experience in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology and Immunoassay. Must possess good knowledge of safety precautions and be capable of maintaining the strictest of confidentiality.
Essential Clinical Responsibilities
· Secures blood and urine samples for analysis and corresponding requisition slips
· Processes the samples according to the specimen processing procedure
· Maintain records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
· Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and documenting all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance
· Follow the laboratory’s policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance
· Be able to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the appropriate supervisor
· Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
· Reports blood results to physicians
· Follow HIPAA Guidelines
· Observes COLA regulations
· Adhere to Practice policies and procedures
· All other duties as requested by Supervisor or Physicians
Education
ASCP Certified Medical Laboratory Technician or ASCP Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist
Or
10+ years’ experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Technologist
Experience
Physician Office Laboratory (POL) setting preferred, not required.
Familiarity with Beckman Coulter’s AU-480 analyzer and Siemen’s Immulite 2000 Analyzer a plus.
Experience with Labdaq LIS and eClinicalWorks also a plus.
