CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Machinist

Position Summary
Port Plastics is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer to support a growing precision plastics machining operation. This individual will be responsible for programming, setting up, and optimizing CNC lathes while supporting production on complex thermoplastic components for semiconductor, medical, aerospace, and industrial customers.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong programming ability, process development, and shop-floor troubleshooting. The ideal candidate enjoys building processes from the ground up and will play a key role in expanding our turning department.
Responsibilities
- Program CNC lathes using Mastercam.
- Develop efficient machining strategies for engineering plastics.
- Set up and prove out new jobs.
- Optimize cycle times, tooling, and workholding.
- Support production through troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Edit programs at the machine control as required.
- Create setup sheets and document best practices.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality to ensure on-time delivery.
- Assist in developing new machining capabilities as additional equipment is added.
Equipment
Experience with the following equipment is preferred:
- Haas ST Series CNC Lathes
- Kia CNC Lathe with Fanuc Controls
- Live Tooling
- C-Axis Machining
- Y-Axis Machining (preferred)
Future equipment may include additional live-tool turning centers.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years CNC lathe programming and setup experience
- Mastercam programming experience
- Strong knowledge of G & M Code
- Experience editing programs at the machine
- Ability to independently prove out new jobs
- Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience machining tight tolerance components
Preferred:
- Experience machining plastics (PEEK, PVDF, PTFE, UHMW, Acetal, Nylon, Polycarbonate, etc.)
- Fanuc controls
- Haas controls
- Live tooling
- C & Y Axis machining
- Multi-operation process development
- Bar feeder experience
