Position Summary:
San Jose Gardens, a specialized Assisted Living Facility with a focus on memory care, is seeking a compassionate and dependable Part-Time Cook to join our care team. This position plays a key role in preparing nutritious, appealing meals for residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, helping to support their health, dignity, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook daily meals following the established menus, dietary guidelines, and special needs of residents with memory impairments.
- Modify food textures (e.g., pureed, chopped, mechanical soft, finger foods, no concentrated sweets) as needed based on resident care plans.
- Ensure food is served at appropriate temperatures and with attention to visual appeal to encourage healthy appetites.
- Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment following health department regulations and food safety practices.
- Collaborate with dietary and nursing staff to meet individual resident dietary preferences and restrictions.
- Assist with kitchen inventory, food orders, and deliveries.
- Practice empathy and patience when interacting with residents who may be confused or exhibit behavioral symptoms of dementia.
- Follow all sanitation and infection control protocols.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; culinary training or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of cooking experience, ideally in a healthcare, senior living, or memory care environment.
- Familiarity with special diets (e.g., pureed, mechanical soft, finger foods, diabetic, low-sodium) and food allergies.
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on feet for extended periods.
- A caring, calm demeanor and an understanding of dementia-related behaviors.
