Job Overview
We are looking for a friendly, warm, caring, and dependable Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician to join our team.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with patients, is organized and detail-oriented, and is comfortable performing both clinical and administrative duties. Ophthalmology experience is preferred, although candidates with strong medical assisting experience and a willingness to learn ophthalmology are encouraged to apply.
Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting patients and helping create a warm, comfortable patient experience
- Checking patients in and out
- Preparing and working up patients for examination by the ophthalmologist
- Checking and documenting visual acuity
- Obtaining and documenting patient histories and relevant clinical information
- Starting and preparing patient charts and clinical notes
- Preparing charts in advance for upcoming appointments
- Operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment used for analysis of the eye, including:
- OCT
- Retinal/fundus cameras
- Other ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Assisting physicians during examinations and office procedures
- Setting up examination and procedure rooms
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Maintaining clean, organized, and properly stocked examination rooms
- Scheduling patient appointments
- Answering telephone calls and assisting patients with questions
- Insurance verification
- Obtaining insurance prior authorizations
- Faxing, scanning, and attaching documents to patient charts
- Filing and maintaining accurate medical records
- Assisting with inventory management
- Monitoring and stocking medical and office supplies
- Helping maintain a clean, organized, and professional office environment
- Performing other clinical and administrative duties as needed to support the physicians, patients, and office team
Qualifications & Skills
- Medical Assistant or ophthalmology/optometry office experience preferred
- Ophthalmic Technician experience is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and patient-service skills
- Warm, friendly, compassionate, and professional demeanor
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable learning and operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Ability to multitask in a busy medical office
- Basic computer and electronic medical record skills
- Dependable and able to work well as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Spanish speaking preferred

Physical Requirements
This position involves standing, walking, sitting, and assisting with routine clinical and office activities throughout the workday. The employee must be able tolift and carry items weighing less than 22 pounds as needed.

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
