Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dependable General Concrete Finisher to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be an essential part of concrete-related projects, assisting with various tasks that ensure the successful completion of commercial and residential concrete work.
Purpose
The finish IS the product. On commercial and industrial work the GC never sees our estimating, our planning, or our forms after strip — he sees warehouse floors, building slabs, and site concrete. Commercial tolerances and specs (FF/FL numbers, joint plans, cure specs) are contract requirements with money attached, not preferences.
The finisher’s hands are the company’s reputation.
Duties
Pre-pour: Walk the placement with the Crew Lead; verify grade, forms, embeds, and joints match the pour plan; confirm finish spec for THIS pour (steel vs. broom vs. cure-and-seal, FF requirements if any); stage finishing tools and check the trowel machine (blades, fuel, starts) BEFORE the first truck, not after.
Placement & Finish: Screed/strike-off to grade; bull float behind the screed; watch the slab and call the timing windows (this is the craft — edging, jointing, floating, troweling at the right set for the day’s weather and mix); run walk-behind and ride-on trowel machines; cut or tool joints to the joint plan — location and depth, same day; hand-finish edges, penetrations, and details machines can’t reach; broom to consistent texture where specified.
Judgment calls (with the Crew Lead): Flag slump/mix problems on arrival — a bad truck gets rejected, not "worked in"; adjust sequence for sun/wind/rain; know when to call for retarder, evaporation protection, or more hands BEFORE the slab gets away.
Cure & Protect: Apply specified cure same day; protect edges and surface; document (photo) anything questionable at cure time.
Repairs: Rub/patch walls and columns after strip; grind/patch flatwork defects properly — and report the cause in the daily numbers so it doesn’t repeat.
Required Skillset:
Can run a pour’s finishing operation for their zone without being told the timing; can operate ride-on and walk-behind machines; can edge, joint, and hand-finish to commercial standard; reads a pour plan and joint layout; knows broom, steel, and cure-and-seal specs cold.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely
- Help with the placement and finishing of concrete surfaces including slabs, sidewalks, and mechanical pads
- Prepping and placing footings
- Participate in rebar tying
- Load and unload materials
- Ability to perform physical tasks
This is an early career position with lots of room for growth! Our work is throughout the Florida Panhandle (Pensacola to Tallahassee) as well as southern Alabama and Georgia.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
