Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic / Structural Welder to join our team at the Menomonee Falls Terminal. This vital role combines expertise in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment maintenance, and structural welding to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet and infrastructure. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will perform complex diagnostics, repairs, and welding tasks on a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and industrial equipment. Your hands-on skills and mechanical knowledge will directly contribute to the smooth operation of our transportation and logistics services.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines (CAT C5 Engines and Cummins), transmissions, hydraulic systems, brakes, suspensions, and other mechanical components on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify structural components using various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding
- Conduct routine maintenance on Peterbilt Semi trucks and large end dump and hopper trailer inventory
- Read schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot electrical systems, air brake systems, HVAC units, and vehicle electrical components
- Use hand tools and power tools to assemble parts, replace components, or perform repairs with precision and safety in mind
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work logs for all repairs and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations during all repair and welding operations
Requirements
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician
- Strong fabrication skills with the ability to weld structural steel using various techniques
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation forklifts and tractor-trailers
- Ability to read schematics for electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic systems
- Mechanical knowledge of automotive diagnostics, transmissions, suspension systems, shocks & struts, and vehicle maintenance procedures
- Familiarity with automotive electrical system repair, tire service, alignment procedures, and brake repair
- Experience working with farm machinery or industrial equipment is a plus
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and equipment maintenance practices
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with team members and clients
