Overview
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated individual with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A to operate large trucks, including tractor-trailers, to transport goods across various locations, requiring adherence to DOT regulations, thorough vehicle inspections, and maintaining strict delivery schedules. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely hauling goods across the United States (all lower 48 states) including products such as the following: lumber, coils, steel, precast, construction equipment, and more. While our company hauls across the United States, this role focuses on regional routes within a specific multi-state area (ex. VA, NC, SC, GA), providing a balance of miles and home time. Weekly home time is guaranteed; certain routes may potentially allow additional days at home during the week.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle to pick up and deliver cargo according to designated routes.
- Drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
- Ensure trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit (couple and uncouple trailer from the truck)
- Obtain signatures or warehouse scans to confirm and complete deliveries with clients.
- Send 'picture' documents formatted as clean, clear and legible PDFs of only the proof of delivery.
- Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document.
- Check weather conditions and road reports before departure
- Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean.
- Properly secure and unsecure cargo with chains, binders, straps, and tarps - depending on the commodity. You will not physically load/unload cargo as that is completed by shipper/receiving.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving time and mileage according to DOT regulations.
- Follow all traffic laws and DOT compliance guidelines.
- Comply with ICC and DOT regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules.
- Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
- Make safety a priority at all times
Desired Skills and Experience
- Valid Class A driver's license required
- 2+ years proven experience with tractor-trailer driving preferred
- Must pass a background check and drug test
- Skilled at driving large vehicles
- Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer
- Punctual, alert, focused and ability to plan ahead.
- Physically and mentally fit
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
- High level of composure and good stress management
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. at a time (average weight of a tarp)
- Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
- An innate sense of direction
- Knowledge of truck maintenance and repair
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- TWIC (not required as it can be obtained later) - Port/Military Base entry
