2026/27 Assistant Hockey Coach
Position Overview
Columbia University Ice Hockey Club is seeking a dedicated Assistant Coach to support the development and success of our team. This is a part-time position working alongside the head coach and player leadership to run practices, manage game-day operations, and help our players grow both on and off the ice. The ideal candidate is an experienced hockey player or coach who is organized, communicative, and invested in the growth of a student-run program.
About the Role
Columbia Club Hockey is a fully student-run organization and students manage all administrative and operational affairs of the club. The Assistant Coach reports to and supports the Head Coach in all on-ice and game-day coaching duties, with no administrative responsibilities.
Schedule and Commitment
- Season runs September through March, with a break over the winter holidays
- One practice per week, generally one game each weekend, up to three weekend-long tournaments
- Home events are held at World Ice Arena (Flushing), Ice Hutch (Bronx), and Riverside Park (Manhattan)
- Most travel is within the Tri-state area, tournaments may be farther
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Coach in leading one practice per week and coaching in weekend games
- Support player skill development, systems installation, and game strategy
- Assist Head Coach and club leaders with player recruitment
- Assist with tournament travel, including driving a team van
- Help foster a positive, inclusive, and safe team culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Playing and/or coaching experience at the competitive, collegiate, or youth AA/AAA level
- Strong knowledge of hockey systems, skill development, and game management
- Ability to work effectively with college-age student-athletes
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Detail-oriented
Compensation
$17.00 per hour. Per University guidelines, benefits such as health insurance, office space, and retirement plans are not available for this position. The only perks associated with this role are a Dodge Fitness Center membership for the academic year and a Columbia email address.
