About the Role
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care and improving health outcomes in our community. Working closely with our Family Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric Nurse Specialists (PMHNP), and a collaborative interdisciplinary team, you will assist in preventive care, chronic disease management, and patient education—all to support whole-person wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Ability to be on-site and travel between clinic locations as required
- Record and document vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints
- Assist the Nurse Practitioner during exams and procedures
- Prepare and administer medications as directed
- Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens; perform basic lab tests
- Educate patients on medications, diet, and follow-up care
- Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and ensure equipment is operational
- Monitor supply inventory and reorder as needed
- Support administrative tasks, including billing, coding, and insurance claims
- Answer phones, direct inquiries, and relay provider instructions to patients
- Communicate test results and follow-up information as delegated
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) required
- Ability to be on-site at 3 clinic locations as needed (Gage Park, Bucktown, Rogers Park) - Reliable transportation is a must
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations
- Proficiency in medical terminology and electronic health records (EHR)
- Familiarity with basic billing and coding
- Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced clinical setting
