First Baptist Church of Sylva is seeking caring, dependable, and energetic individuals to join our First Explorers After-School Ministry for the 2025–2026 school year.
We are currently hiring:
- 1 Part-Time 15-Passenger Bus Driver/Counselor – CDL’s not required

Season: Mid-August 2026 through the end of May 2027
Schedule (Follows the Jackson County Public Schools Calendar)
Bus Driver/Counselor
- Monday - Friday
- 2:15 PM–5:15 PM
Pay
Responsibilities
As an After-School Counselor/ Bus Driver, you will:
- Safely transport students in a 15-passenger church vehicle
- Complete pre-trip safety checks as required
- Assist with student supervision before and after transportation
- Supervise and care for children in grades K–6
- Create a safe, positive, and welcoming environment
- Prepare and serve afternoon snacks
- Monitor outdoor playground activities
- Assist students with homework when needed
- Lead games, crafts, and indoor activities during inclement weather
- Encourage positive behavior and respectful interactions
- Assist with parent pick-up procedures
- Help clean and organize classrooms and activity spaces at the end of each day
- Serve as a positive Christian role model for children
Qualifications
Preferred applicants will:
- Enjoy working with elementary-age children
- Be dependable, punctual, and responsible
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Be able to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors
- Pass any required background screening
- Have a valid driver's license (Bus Driver/Counselor position)
Previous experience in childcare, education, summer camps, after-school programs, church ministry, coaching, tutoring, or youth programs is helpful but not required.

First Explorers is the after-school ministry of First Baptist Church of Sylva. Our program provides children with a safe and nurturing environment where they enjoy recreation, homework assistance, Bible lessons, enrichment activities, and caring relationships with trusted adults.

Pay: $13.50 per hour
