Total Communications is looking for a Junior Systems Engineer to join our Technical Services team.
This is an opportunity for someone early in their IT career who has developed a strong technical foundation and is ready to move beyond basic IT support into enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, cloud, backup/disaster recovery, and project-based engineering.
We're looking for someone who understands the fundamentals, enjoys figuring out how things work, takes ownership of problems, and wants to develop into a well-rounded infrastructure engineer.
What You'll Work On
As part of our engineering team, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting and implementing technologies including:
- Windows Server and Active Directory
- Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere
- Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
- Datto backup and disaster recovery
- NinjaOne
- Cisco and Meraki infrastructure
You'll work alongside experienced engineers on customer projects while gradually taking ownership of increasingly complex implementations and support issues.
What You'll Do
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments
- Assist with VMware and Hyper-V deployments and migrations
- Support Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments
- Configure and troubleshoot backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Assist senior engineers with server, storage, virtualization, and cloud projects
- Work directly with customers to resolve technical problems
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation
- Learn new technologies and develop deeper areas of technical expertise
What We're Looking For
You don't need to check every box. We're more interested in your technical foundation, initiative, and ability to learn.
A strong candidate will have some combination of:
- 1–3 years of professional IT experience, or equivalent hands-on technical experience
- Working knowledge of Windows Server
- Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and basic networking
- Exposure to VMware, Hyper-V, or another virtualization platform
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365
- Basic understanding of servers, storage, networking, and virtualization
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers
- A demonstrated interest in learning new technologies
Experience with Microsoft Azure, Hyper-V, PowerShell, Entra ID, Datto, NinjaOne, Cisco, Meraki, or HPE infrastructure is a plus.

Maybe you're the person on your current team who volunteers to figure out something nobody has worked with before.
Certifications
Certifications are helpful but not required. Relevant certifications include:
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
- Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104)
- Cisco CCNA
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Server+
- CompTIA Security+
Equivalent hands-on experience, labs, training, and demonstrated technical ability are equally important.
