Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Part-Time Cleaner to join our morning shift team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the facility. Your efforts will ensure that the space remains pristine and well-maintained for visitors, staff, and event attendees alike. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, high-traffic environment while working flexible hours.
Position Summary:
The Part-Time Cleaner contributes to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Javits Center. Working under the direction of the Director of Environmental Solutions, this position performs a wide range of custodial, sanitation, and setup duties in both public and back-of-house areas of the facility.
The compensation for this position is $26.79 per hour (paid on a bi-weekly basis).
Available Shifts:
- Morning (7:00AM-3:30PM)
- Evening (3:00PM-11:30PM)
- Overnight (11:00PM-7:30AM)
All shifts are eligible for overtime based on business needs.
Scheduling Requirements:
- Must be available at least one (1) day on the weekend
- Must be available at least two (2) days per week
- Must be willing to work holidays
Scheduled workdays may vary from week to week based on business and event needs.
Essential Functions:
- Clean terrazzo and tile floors, carpets, glass doors and adjacent panels, stainless steel, painted surfaces, porcelain, chromed surfaces and woodwork.
- Vacuum, spot-clean, and shampoo carpets.
- Sweep, scrub, wax and polish floors, using brooms, mops, powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
- Dusting and polishing furniture, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles.
- Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, roadways, concourses and other rooms and work areas.
- Empty ashtrays and urns.
- Collect and remove rubbish and trash to compactor; operate same.
- Sweep, power sweep and polish exterior surfaces, sidewalks, roadways, plazas, ramps, loading docks, etc.
- Clean and polish escalators, including glass panels.
- Transport, set-up and tear down furniture, easels, signs, receptacles and other event related materials, for meetings, exhibits, shows and various other functions.
- Pick up and distribute janitorial and lavatory supplies.
- Operate heavy equipment, such as but not limited to power scrubbers, payloaders, tractors, forklift trucks, workhorses, power sweepers, litter vacuums, scissor lifts, carpetreivers, automobiles, vans and pick-up trucks when required in the normal course of work.
- Dust or vacuum drapes and dust or wash venetian blinds.
- Operate pressing-washing equipment.
- High dust all areas above hand-high reach, utilizing scaffolds, up to 10 ft. Ladders, extension poles, cherry pickers, scissor lift.
- Operate snow removal equipment, plows, spreaders, blowers, shovels and brooms.
- Polish and service lavatories.
- Other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Availability for variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays is a must.
- Minimum 1 year of commercial or institutional cleaning experience (preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand or walk for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements.
- Must be able to work safely with cleaning agents and equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
