Position Overview
The Residential Electrician / Generator Installer is responsible for performing residential electrical service work, troubleshooting, panel work, and whole-house standby generator installations. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, communicating with homeowners, and handling generator-related electrical work such as transfer switches, generator wiring, and load-management equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform residential electrical service calls, repairs, troubleshooting, and installations
- Install, wire, and assist with startup of whole-house standby generators
- Install automatic transfer switches, generator disconnects, load-management modules, control wiring, and related electrical components
- Perform panel upgrades, subpanels, breakers, circuits, lighting, outlets, switches, smoke detectors, and surge protection
- Troubleshoot breaker trips, grounding issues, failed devices, bad connections, flickering lights, and power loss
- Read electrical diagrams, panel schedules, service manuals, generator manuals, and basic plans
- Coordinate with inspectors, utility providers, generator technicians, gas contractors, and other trades when needed
- Communicate with homeowners about the work being performed, safety concerns, and recommended repairs
- Complete job notes, photos, work orders, and documentation accurately
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and service vehicle
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout residential and light commercial job sites for the duration of the workday
- Frequently lift, push, pull, or carry tools, materials, ladders, and equipment
- Perform physical activities including bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and working in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics
- Work in outdoor and indoor environments in varying weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and humid conditions
- Safely operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles
- Maintain attention to detail and work safely around electrical equipment, panels, generators, and service equipment
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong residential electrical experience
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems independently
- Experience working in panels and around service equipment
- Experience with residential standby generator installations or the ability to be trained
- Experience with automatic transfer switches and load-management equipment is preferred
- Experience with Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Cummins, or similar generator systems is preferred
- Journeyman or master electrician license is preferred
- Familiarity with generator maintenance and startup procedures is a plus
- Professional appearance and respectful communication with customers
- Experience using ServiceTitan or similar field-service software is a plus
