- Prepare, review, and submit medical claims using billing software and EMR/EHR systems, ensuring accuracy in coding with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding standards.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility to facilitate smooth claims processing.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of medical billing activities, including documentation of payments, adjustments, and appeals.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation of medical records and accurate coding for services rendered.
- Stay current with healthcare claims management regulations, health insurance policies, and updates in medical terminology to ensure compliance.
- Utilize Microsoft Office tools for reporting, data analysis, and communication purposes to support billing operations.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing with a solid understanding of medical office workflows and billing procedures.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Records) platforms for efficient claim processing.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.
- Knowledge of health insurance policies, healthcare claims management processes, and medical records documentation requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for data entry and reporting purposes.
- Ability to interpret complex medical terminology accurately and apply it appropriately during billing procedures.
