Housekeeper Job Description
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining clean, comfortable, and attractive guest rooms, hallways, and public areas throughout the hotel. This role includes servicing guest rooms daily in accordance with hotel standards, replenishing supplies, changing linens, and ensuring all guest areas are properly cleaned and inspected. Housekeepers may also assist with deep-cleaning projects and preventative maintenance tasks while following all company safety and security procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome and acknowledge guests in a friendly and professional manner while providing excellent customer service.
- Clean and maintain guest rooms, bathrooms, living spaces, hallways, and public areas to company standards.
- Ensure all rooms are fully cleaned, organized, inspected, and ready for guest arrival.
- Follow established cleaning procedures and properly use biodegradable and all-natural cleaning products.
- Strip and remake beds, replace bed linens, and handle laundry items as needed.
- Replenish guest room amenities, towels, linens, and supplies.
- Restock housekeeping carts and transport linens and supplies to assigned areas.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged items, or supply shortages to management promptly.
- Assist with deep-cleaning projects and preventative maintenance activities when assigned.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions to support communication and service standards.
- Respond courteously and professionally to guest requests, questions, and concerns.
- Follow all safety and security procedures to protect guests, employees, and hotel property.
- Assist with additional housekeeping or hotel duties as assigned by management.
Essential Functions
- Clean furniture, fixtures, floors, walls, and equipment.
- Carry linens, towels, toiletries, and cleaning supplies using wheeled carts.
- Dispose of trash and waste materials properly.
- Move or rearrange furniture when necessary.
- Monitor assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and guest safety.
- Maintain inventory of housekeeping supplies and notify supervisors when items need replenishing.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and management regarding room status and maintenance concerns.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous hotel housekeeping experience preferred.
- Friendly, dependable, and team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Professional appearance with a positive and courteous attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and lift throughout an 8–10 hour shift.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds periodically throughout the workday.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as needed.
