THE POSITION
Become a key part of the Department of Corrections (DOC) as the Medical Records Supervisor at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. In this role, you help maintain essential medical information that supports inmate treatment and keeps the medical unit operating efficiently. Your leadership will elevate record accuracy, strengthen coordination with clinical staff, and ensure documentation policies are consistently followed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on overseeing the development and maintenance of inmate medical records while also participating in day-to-day record operations. The role ensures that all documentation meets professional standards and supports the needs of the institution. As a Medical Records Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:
- Supervisory Leadership: Manage and review staff work assignments, establish work plans, and provide training and support
- Record System Oversight: Organize, maintain, and monitor inmate health records, and code diseases, operations, therapies, and treatments according to standards
- Record Management Tasks: File, withdraw, and issue records, transfer records, present records in court cases, and notify staff of inmate discharge status
- Quality and Accuracy Reviews: Examine records for completeness, refer inadequate documentation to appropriate clinical staff, and report patterns to administration
- Statistical Reporting: Prepare periodic reports on morbidity, mortality, utilization of services, and related topics

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
Conditions of Employment:
- Employees who meet the Necessary Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
