JOB Performs routine, semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, alleys, walkways, parking lots and related public works areas. Works under the general supervision of a Street Services Supervisor, arranging and performing routine assignments alone. Detailed instructions are frequently provided and work is carefully reviewed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs routine construction, maintenance and repair work on streets, alleys, driveways, walkways and other areas using various hand and power tools and equipment, including jackhammers, concrete saws, dump trucks, forklifts, skip loaders, backhoes, and graders. Breaks surfaces and digs, shovels and removes asphalt, concrete, dirt, gravel and roots. Trims and removes shrubs, roots and other vegetation from alleys and along roadways to prepare and grade work areas. Cleans and prepares work areas for asphalt application. Oils areas using a compressor and dumps hot asphalt. Spreads and rakes asphalt. Seals and caps surface areas. Cleans work sites following completion of job. Loads and unloads sand, gravel, soil, supplies, tools and equipment. Identifies and repairs potholes. Makes minor repairs to sprinkler heads and lines, as necessary. Assists in building and removing concrete forms and mixing and pouring cement and concrete to construct sidewalks, driveways, walls, curbs, and gutters. Places posts and pours foundations. Places safety barricades, delineators and cones to identify and secure job sites. Assists in directing traffic around work sites. Utilizes a work order database system to retrieve work order and enter and/or update work orders completed. Maintains tools and equipment in proper working order. Checks oils, gas and tires and makes pre-trip inspections. Responds to emergency situations, as needed. Follows applicable safety rules and regulations. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

If three or more qualified City employees apply and pass the examination, a promotional list will be established in addition to an open-competitive list. If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.
Background Investigation:
Candidates who have successfully completed all prior phases of the selection process will be subject to a thorough background investigation.
