Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) for a correctional healthcare facility in Milan, New Mexico. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to inmates/residents by administering medications, carrying out provider orders, performing patient assessments, assisting with examinations and treatments, and responding to medical emergencies. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a secure correctional environment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety, and confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care and patient assessments.
- Administer medications and document treatments accurately.
- Assist Licensed Independent Providers during examinations and treatments.
- Conduct intake assessments for new inmates/residents.
- Respond to medical emergencies and obtain treatment orders as needed.
- Monitor inmate/resident hospitalizations and coordinate follow-up care.
- Supervise and provide guidance to LPN/LVN and unlicensed medical staff.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
- Monitor pharmacy utilization and controlled substance compliance.
- Observe, document, and report inmate/resident health status and behavior.
- Provide health education and counseling.
- Assist with medical documentation, reports, audits, and accreditation activities.
- Ensure compliance with correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Must Have:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Active RN license in the state of employment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work flexible day or night shifts as assigned.
- Strong assessment, medication administration, and emergency response skills.
Required Experience / Licenses / Certifications:
Minimum Experience:
- Previous nursing experience preferred.
- One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred.
Required License:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Valid driver's license.
