POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Bus Driver
LOCATION: Transportation Department
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Safely pick up and deliver students to their schools, activities and homes or designated provider within State and Federal laws and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Be familiar with all laws and regulations pertaining to school bus transportation.
2. Be knowledgeable of, promote and demonstrate high standards of safety.
3. Meet pre-trip inspection requirements and maintain equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
4. Follow established procedures for reporting all noted defects in equipment.
5. Fuel and clean transportation vehicles.
6. Exhibit satisfactory driving skills in the operation of a school bus.
7. Pick up and deliver students on regularly scheduled routes, scheduled field and activity trips, in conformity with laws and regulations.
8. Perform administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: development of seating charts, documenting student conduct, maintaining records, documenting maintenance related issues, working hours, logs, accident reports, etc.
9. Participate in scheduled in-service training and attend relevant continuing education workshops and seminars as offered.
10. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Transportation or Dispatcher.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Minimum of 21 years of age
3. An established good driving record as determined by the employing agency
4. Possess a valid Colorado CDL/P2S Class A or B license
5. Pass a prescribed DOT physical examination administered by a licensed physician that has been approved by the employing agency
6. Meet all requirements of the State of Colorado “Rules for the Operation of School Transportation Vehicles” (1CCR-301-26.)
7. Such additions to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work primarily in and on a school bus carrying varying numbers of diverse student and staff populations to school sites and other locations.
Some emergency conditions or circumstances may arise ranging from student medical or behavior problems to road and weather conditions that may become hazardous. Such events require vigilance and critical decision-making on the part of the bus driver.
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. To be hired:
a. There must be pre-employment screening at District expense by designated providers.
b. A finger print background check at the employee’s expense must be passed.
2. The employee must have a First Aid Certificate within 90 days of initial employment and kept current thereafter.
3. The employee shall be subject to controlled substance and alcohol testing pursuant to the Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration Rule, 49CFR 382.
4. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
a. The employee must occasionally (to frequently) lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
b. The employee will be required to push, pull, twist, bend, stand, squat, crawl and climb.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work year is established by the Board of Education. Schedule of work hours is recommended by the Transportation Director within the number of work hours and salary established by the Board of Education. The Employee shall receive benefits that apply to classified personnel as established by the Board of Education policy and the Fort Morgan Association of Classified Personnel.
