Overview

Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes with precision.
- Prepare and submit clean claims for insurance reimbursement using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices to maximize revenue.
- Ensure all billing activities comply with healthcare regulations, coding guidelines, and payer requirements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of medical records, coding decisions, and billing transactions for audit readiness.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for accurate coding.
- Stay updated on changes in medical terminology, coding standards, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, along with familiarity with DRG classifications.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems to manage medical records and billing workflows effectively.
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures to accurately interpret patient records.
- Demonstrated ability to handle medical collections efficiently while maintaining professionalism.
- Prior experience with medical office operations is preferred but not required; a keen attention to detail is essential.
- Excellent organizational skills combined with the ability to adapt quickly to evolving coding standards and regulations.
