About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established civil contractor supporting site development, earthwork, utilities, paving, and infrastructure projects across Central Ohio.
They are seeking a Civil Field Engineer / Survey & Layout Coordinator to support field operations through layout coordination, quantity tracking, documentation, as-builts, production reporting, and communication between project management and field teams.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with civil construction, surveying, layout, GPS, machine control, or field engineering experience who wants to stay close to the field while continuing to grow within civil site development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support field teams on civil sitework, earthwork, grading, utility, paving, and site infrastructure projects
- Assist with construction layout, grade checks, survey coordination, GPS/model coordination, and field measurements
- Track quantities, production, materials, equipment, daily progress, and field conditions
- Assist with as-builts, field documentation, reports, photos, drawings, and project records
- Review civil drawings, grading plans, utility plans, site plans, and specifications
- Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, project managers, surveyors, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Help identify and communicate field conflicts related to utilities, grades, drainage, access, layout, and sequencing
- Support quality control by confirming work is being installed in accordance with plans and specifications
- Assist with erosion control, stormwater, utility, paving, and sitework documentation as needed
- Maintain clear and accurate communication between office and field teams
Qualifications
- 1–5+ years of experience in civil construction, field engineering, surveying, construction layout, sitework, earthwork, utilities, or related field work
- Experience with grading, excavation, underground utilities, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, paving, or site development is strongly preferred
- Ability to read and understand civil/site drawings, grading plans, utility plans, and construction documents
- Familiarity with GPS equipment, robotic total stations, Trimble, Topcon, Leica, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, machine control, or survey/layout tools is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working outdoors and walking active construction sites
- Valid driver’s license required
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, or related field is preferred but not required with relevant experience
Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
