SpecPro Sustainment and Environmental (SSE) is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the 50th Civil Engineer Squadron (50 CES) at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB), Colorado.
The Construction Inspector will provide construction inspection and surveillance support for a variety of complex facility and infrastructure projects. The position will support 50 CES in ensuring construction is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, safety requirements, and applicable quality standards. The Construction Inspector will coordinate with Government personnel, engineers, architects, construction contractors, and other project stakeholders throughout project execution.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform on-site inspection and surveillance of complex construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activities, schedules, sequencing, materials, and workmanship.
- Interpret engineering and architectural plans, specifications, and construction details in the field.
- Review plans and specifications against actual field conditions and identify potential conflicts, discrepancies, and constructability issues.
- Provide technical observations and recommendations to Government engineering and contracting personnel regarding construction issues.
- Review contractor submittals and progress schedules and provide recommendations for Government approval or disapproval.
- Inspect materials and equipment delivered to and installed on project sites and document non-compliant items.
- Obtain or coordinate material samples for testing when required.
- Conduct daily on-site inspections during active construction and prepare detailed daily inspection reports.
- Prepare weekly summary inspection reports documenting project status, observations, deficiencies, and other relevant construction activities.
- Review contractor payment requests and provide recommendations based on observed construction progress.
- Identify and immediately report safety violations or concerns.
- Participate in pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, pre-final inspections, final inspections, and other project-related meetings.
- Identify construction deficiencies, track corrective actions, and verify completion prior to project acceptance.
- Maintain detailed and auditable project records, including inspection logs, safety observations, non-conformance documentation, field changes, and records of project discussions and decisions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Applicants must have U.S. citizenship – required.
- Applicant must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check w/Inquiries (NACI) – required.
- Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures for building materials, workmanship, utilities, and system installations.
- Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and structural aspects of major construction projects.
- Proficiency in construction industry inspection and safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction trades and methods.
- Working knowledge of applied mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to identify, document, and communicate construction deficiencies and non-compliant work.
- Ability to maintain detailed inspection records and prepare clear written reports.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with Government personnel, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required installation and restricted-area access.
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Construction Management or Construction Technology.
- Minimum of three (3) years of construction and/or contract-related experience.
Relevant experience must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures for building materials, workmanship, utilities, and system installations.
- Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and structural aspects of major construction projects.
- Proficiency in construction inspection and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural plans and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction trades and applied mathematics.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Work Location:
- Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
- Position supports the 50th Civil Engineer Squadron and requires coordination with Government personnel, engineers, architects, construction contractors, contracting personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Work is primarily performed on-site at Schriever Space Force Base.
- Remote/telework is not anticipated.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to conduct frequent inspections within active construction environments.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and navigate uneven terrain and active construction areas for extended periods.
- Ability to access facilities and project locations throughout Schriever Space Force Base.
- Ability to perform desk and computer work associated with inspection documentation and reporting.

Work Environment:
- Work will be performed in both office and active construction environments.
- Construction-site activities may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, airborne particles, fumes, chemicals, loud noises, uneven surfaces, construction equipment, and other typical construction-site conditions.
