Job Overview
We are seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team of Medical Assistants/Technicians. This role would mainly consist of clinical duties but will require some flexibility to perform front office tasks as well (see below). The role has the opportunity to grow into a full-time position.
The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 1 year of experience as a medical assistant within a medical/surgical practice. Plastic Surgery, Opthalmology, or Dermatology experience is highly desired. They would work well under pressure, maintain a positive attitude, and adapt easily to changes in their environment. The individual would be detail oriented and able to perform the functions of this role with a high degree of accuracy. They would be customer service oriented with a friendly, cheerful demeanor.
Essential functions of this role:
- Greet patients, capture their images, workup patients and accurately document their medical history, chief complaint, and history of present illness in the EMR.
- Support physicians throughout the patient visit and document pertinent visit information such as diagnosis and plan in the patient’s chart.
- Assist the physicians with examinations and procedures by handing them instruments and supplies.
- Discuss products and services with patients, providing thorough education and support.
- Explain pre and post procedures instructions to patients.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
- Collect tissue or laboratory specimens, log and prepare them for testing.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Assist providers during aesthetic and medical procedures.
- Change dressings on wounds and assist with suture removal.
- Collect payment information and process payments for products and services.
- Assist front office staff with patient phone calls by filtering clinical questions as needed.
- Assist front office staff with obtaining procedure authorization as needed.
Competencies
- Knowledge of electronic medical record and practice management systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical office safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations
- Knowledge of medical office equipment use and maintenance
- Communication – Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Computer Skills – Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record
- Confidentiality – Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality
- Compliance with all HIPAA regulations
Preferred education and experience
- CMA certification and Medical Assisting experience
- Plastic surgery, Ophthalmology, or Dermatology experience
- Experience assisting in minor/surgical procedures
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
