Key Responsibilities of the NICU Occupational Therapist
- Provide occupational therapy assessments and interventions for infants in the NICU
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on each patient's clinical and developmental needs
- Support infant development, positioning, feeding, sensory regulation, and functional development where appropriate
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly
- Work closely with parents and caregivers, providing education, guidance, and support
- Collaborate with neonatologists, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, and patient safety standards
- Provide compassionate, family-centered care in a highly specialized neonatal environment
Requirements of the NICU Occupational Therapist Role
- Current BLS certification
- Current California Occupational Therapist license
- Minimum 1 year of recent NICU Occupational Therapist experience
- Experience working with premature and medically complex infants preferred
- Strong knowledge of neonatal development and occupational therapy interventions
- Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and patient care skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
