Position
Stevenson is seeking a full-time English teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The position is focused on senior students. Teaching will include multiple sections of Stevenson’s Senior Seminar course, which supports students' college application writing (personal narrative), exposes students to college-level writing with critical lenses, and guides students through a reflective capstone project culminating in panel presentations. In addition, an ability to teach a range of English courses and learners, an ability to oversee and guide student work portfolios, and a commitment to Stevenson’s integrated academic-emotional work are crucial.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead multiple sections of Stevenson’s Senior Seminar course.
- Envision, design, and implement other English course(s) that serves the Stevenson Mission and Vision and that are defensible based on two points of reference: (a) relevant external sources (e.g., NY State Standards; Universal Design for Learning) and (b) Stevenson students’ interests, abilities, and preferences.
- Consider and actively seek colleague input and new understandings of students, particularly related to emotional complexity.
- Maintain clear, purposeful records of class plans and student performance.
- Through clear communication, work closely with our Counseling Center, advisors, and faculty to propel a therapeutic approach integrating academic and emotional development..
- Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators.
- Serve as a back-up advisor to support and learn about Stevenson’s Advising program.
- Continue intellectual and professional development.
Qualifications
- Strong background in related field(s), including at least 2+ years successful, relevant High School or Middle School teaching experience.
- Commitment to Stevenson's mission.
- Master’s Degree in Education or related focus
- Teaching certification in any state (NY not required).
- Comfort designing and teaching varied English courses.
- Excellent written and verbal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Interest in receiving support and feedback from other teachers, directorsrs, and other staff.
- Humor, patience, poise, and an ability to purposefully balance structure and flexibility.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
