Schedule: Monday- Friday 11a-7p (hours may vary depending on client needs) - rotating weekend on call every 4-6 weeks
Role:
This role oversees the continuity of services and support to human trafficking victims/survivors. Direct services include ensuring that survivors who have recently been dismissed from WCH’s anti-human trafficking programs remain self-sufficient and successfully housed after moving into permanent housing, achieve personal goals and strengthen community and family, as appropriate, connections.
This role also collaborates with community partners and other professionals to create supports for the survivor and to affect changes at a systems level by being mindful of issues that affect survivors served by WCH and advocating on their behalf. Collaborates with management team to ensure WCH’s survivor care program implements best practices, trauma-informed and survivor-centered delivery of services.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides aftercare services, utilizing best practices in trauma informed and survivor-centered care, restorative practice and positive youth development with a strength-based approach. Delivers programs and services in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to the survivors’ cultural experiences.
- Promotes survivors’ wellbeing and ability to reach their goals through assessment, advocacy, psychosocial education, rapport-building, connection to resources, accompaniment to appointments, when necessary and appropriate, and evaluation.
- Monitors survivors’ progress and maintains frequent communication through face-to-face meetings in the community; visits at their place of residence (i.e., home, shelter, foster care); engages in phone calls, text messages, and any other means of communication to ensure that individual goals are being addressed and met and that they remain safe.
- Assists with all aspects of crisis intervention including providing for emergency needs like food and/or clothing, housing, and safety planning; assessing for emergency medical, mental health, or substance abuse support and making required connections; assisting with transportation and interpretation needs; providing supportive counseling; and making a follow up or service transfer plan.
- Cultivates relationships with victim service providers, child welfare agencies, child advocacy centers, task forces and other local/regional/state resources serving the needs of minor trafficking victims.
- Accepts on-call status to assist program staff in handling crisis situations and to maintain an atmosphere of safety and support in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Position Requirements:
- Experience: Two years relevant experience; equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Lived experience preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, public health, education, or another relevant human development field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Other Skills: Have the skills, patience, and understanding to work with and around special needs children/youth. Good interpersonal skills, including composure under stress and sensitivity to the needs of others. Ability to represent the Wichita Children's Home in a professional manner.
- Physical/Environmental: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. There is moderate noise in this working environment. Must be able to walk at least one mile to escort youth as needed.
