Full Job Description

1. About Us

RPD Technologies Americas is a leading contract testing facility specialized in supporting their clients in the development, scale-up, and commercialization of new technologies in the refining, petrochemical and renewable industries. We are expanding our team and seeking skilled, hands-on professionals to fill multiple levels of R&D Process Operator roles –ranging from entry-level Operators to experienced and Lead Operators. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing company focused on serving its customers in their development and commercialization efforts.

2. Position Summary

The R&D Process Operator is a member of the operations team and responsible for the safe, efficient and accurate operation of Pilot and Bench Scale chemical, thermal and mechanical processing units. Depending on experience, responsibilities may range from routine operation and data collection to leading shift teams, coordinating experimental runs and mentoring junior operators.

3. Position Wage Classification

The R&D Process Operator position is classified as hourly, non-exempt.

4. Position Work Schedule

Position is typically scheduled a 12-hour shift. The shift schedule will vary based on operational factors.

Position will require working days, nights, and weekends.

Position may require overtime based on site and project activities.

5. Position Description

The R&D Process Operator works assigned shift schedule and is responsible for the operations of pilot and bench scale operating units, including troubleshooting and resolving operational issues, monitoring of process equipment, and performance of maintenance activities.

The R&D Process Operator is expected to learn and know the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation workings of pumps, tubing/piping systems, reactors/distillation systems, and other equipment within assigned areas.

6. Job Duties and Responsibilities

Operate and monitor pilot plant equipment such as pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, reactors and distillation columns.

Record process data accurately and consistently.

Thoroughly understands how the process operates and how it is integrated with other processes and the site.

Ensures the safety of personnel with work permits through proper review, job walkdown, and issuance.

Follows site SOP’s, safety procedures and work instructions.

Perform process troubleshooting and recommend improvements.

Maintain inventory list for various process fluids onsite including fresh feed, products and intermediates produced and generated from various units.

Continually maintains good situational awareness by proactive monitoring assigned area.

Conducts rounds on equipment, lines up and makes chemical transfers, troubleshoots, etc.

Support setup of new experiments, pilot plant equipment and configuration changes.

Participate in root cause analysis and safety investigations.

Participates in training such as startups, shutdowns, and emergency procedures.

Train and mentor junior operators.

Perform unit cleaning and other turnaround functions.

Perform routine maintenance

Other duties as assigned

Proper execution of the safety processes.

7. Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria as a minimum requirement for the position:

Level 1: R&D Process Operator

o A high school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years operator, maintenance, or

experience in a petrochemical manufacturing facility.

o An Associate Degree in Process Technology or Process Technology Certification

Level 2: Senior R&D Process Operator

o 5-10 years of hands-on process operations experience

o Strong knowledge of process equipment and controls

o Demonstrated troubleshooting, team collaboration and leadership skills.

Level 3: Lead R&D Process Operator

10+ years in process operations with leadership responsibilities

o Ability to coordinate shifts and interface with technical teams

o Experience in pilot or R&D environments preferred.

8. Preferred Skills

Demonstrated ability to understand and apply knowledge of work processes, policies, and procedures to ensure safe, reliable, optimized operation.

Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and processes.

Strong commitment to safety, precision and continuous improvement.

Experience interpreting P&IDs, using HMIs and managing hazardous systems.

Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to formulate decisions, make and support recommendations, prioritize work, communicate action plans, and handle multiple tasks in pressure situations.

Ability to work independently or as a team member.

Demonstrated application of safe work practices.

Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationship with all levels of the organization.

Excellent work ethic and self-starter; punctuality, accuracy and good attendance is a must.

Basic computer skills needed to perform job tasks.

Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, and speak English language.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

9. Physical Requirements

The ability to perform the following activities for 3-4 hours at a time: sit, stand, walk,

climb stairs and ladders, and lift at least 50 pounds

Must be able and willing to wear safety equipment such as PPE and respirators.

Must be able to walk across steep/rough terrain.

Ability to use hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.

10. Working Conditions

Must be able to work in an industrial setting.

Must be able to work in varied environments: heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty

conditions.
