Full Job Description

RG Smith is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer – AutoCAD & Inventor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate 2D drawings and 3D models that support engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, and construction projects. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and operations personnel, this position plays a critical role in transforming concepts and specifications into detailed design documentation.

The ideal candidate will have experience using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor to create mechanical designs, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and production documentation. This role requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Create, modify, and maintain detailed 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
Develop 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
Produce fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), parts lists, and related engineering documentation.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, production personnel, and field teams to ensure design accuracy and project success.
Review design specifications, engineering calculations, sketches, and customer requirements to develop design solutions.
Revise and update drawings based on design changes, field conditions, manufacturing feedback, and client requests.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry standards, regulations, and company procedures.
Assist in the development and maintenance of drafting standards and design libraries.
Support prototype development, manufacturing, fabrication, and installation activities as needed.
Organize and maintain project files, drawings, and revision documentation.
Participate in project meetings and provide technical design support throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
Proficiency in creating and modifying detailed 2D drawings and 3D models.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, drafting standards, and engineering documentation.
Experience developing fabrication, assembly, and production drawings.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years of experience utilizing AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor in a design, engineering, manufacturing, or related environment required.
Experience in industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, utility, or construction-related industries.
Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience with sheet metal, structural steel, piping, or mechanical equipment design.
Familiarity with ERP, PDM, or document management systems.
Understanding of applicable industry codes and standards.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
Ability to view and analyze detailed technical drawings and computer-generated designs.
Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities, construction sites, or client locations may be required.

Ability to safely navigate industrial and construction environments when conducting site visits
