The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) is seeking a Coordinator, Digital Media to join the Communications team. This role raises awareness and inspires action about AZA-accredited aquariums and zoos, as well as the work they are doing to save species. This role focuses on suggesting and implementing strategies and tactics relating to AZA’s social media accounts and website.
This position is based in our Silver Spring, MD headquarters and reports to the Vice President, Communications. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Works with the Vice President, Communications to develop and execute the association’s digital strategy, designed to support the association’s strategic goals, through social, web, and email communications
- Develops, writes, edits, and schedules content on AZA-owned social media accounts for consistent quality content
- Utilizes social media listening dashboards to maintain timely responses to direct messages, recognize trends and identify potential crisis communications situations
- Optimizes social media content for AZA’s digital magazine, Connect, and other “In the News” content
- Works with internal departments for marketing deliverables on the AZA website and social media pages
- Analyzes web traffic and social media performance for reports on the association’s digital media for the communications team, leadership, Board, and committee presentations
- Functions as the association’s webmaster, working with vendors and partners to oversee website functionality and design improvements for AZA family of websites
- Creates and edits graphics that support AZA’s brand guidelines
- Manages larger website projects in an organized and deadline driven fashion
- Trains other departments on website basics and best practices
- Provides digital media guidance to other departments at AZA
- Performs other duties as requested by the Vice President, Communications or his/her designee
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3+ years of related experience working with digital communities and professional website writing with an emphasis on SEO
- Demonstrated success using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube on behalf of an organization or a brand
- Experience with Windows-based software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Experience with social media listening and communications responses
- Experience with running successful paid social media campaigns
- Demonstrated success using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube on behalf of an organization or a brand
- Experience with video editing tools and software, content management systems, customer relationship management systems, and graphic design tools and software
Skills and Abilities
- Communicates well with both internal and external audiences on projects in process
- Thinks strategically and creatively for social media campaigns that will engage our member facilities and increase engagement on all our AZA social media pages
- Familiarity with website management tools a plus
- Familiarity with interpreting and manipulating social media data, as well as social listening and scheduling tools, such as Sprout Social
- Exceptional writing, editing and copy-editing skills
- Highly organized and self-motivated; able to manage multiple tasks while functioning effectively as a team member under pressure
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with AZA staff and Association members
- Ability to effectively and accurately communicate information in various ways
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service to AZA members and the public through AZA’s social media accounts
- Ability to travel required
The hiring range for this role is $55,162 – $58,609. AZA considers a candidate’s previous experience, skills, education, and relevant qualifications, as well as internal consistency with salaries of current employees when making employment offers.
