POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Account Manager is the highest level of the DecisionHR Benefits Account Management career path, serving as a senior strategic consultant, executive relationship manager, and subject-matter expert for a portfolio of large, complex, and high-value client accounts. This role independently owns multi-year benefit strategy, advanced carrier negotiations, comprehensive funding analysis, and cost-containment program development - and operates as a trusted advisor to client C-suite and senior HR leadership.
In addition to managing the most complex accounts in the portfolio, the Senior Account Manager provides mentorship and technical leadership to Benefits Account Manager I and II staff, contributes to team development and process improvement, and serves as the department's internal expert on funding arrangements, multi-state compliance, PEO master plan design, and benefits consulting best practices. Promotion to this level is based on demonstrated expertise rather than tenure alone.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Client Consulting & Executive Relationship Management

Serve as the senior strategic advisor and relationship owner for a portfolio of large, complex, and high-value client accounts; operate as a trusted executive-level consultant on all aspects of employee benefits strategy.

Conduct executive-level stewardship meetings and benefits strategy sessions; present financial analyses, trend data, and strategic recommendations to C-suite and senior HR leadership contacts.

Lead retention strategy for assigned accounts; proactively identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and ensure clients receive the highest level of consultative service.

Partner with Sales, HR Business Partners, Payroll, Compliance, and Client Experience leadership on complex client needs and cross-functional initiatives.
Advanced Renewal Strategy & Carrier Negotiations
Own the full renewal lifecycle for a portfolio of large and complex accounts
- - from multi-year strategy development through financial analysis, carrier negotiation, plan design recommendation, and implementation.

Lead carrier negotiations on rates, plan design, service terms, and network arrangements; leverage claims data, utilization trends, and market intelligence to achieve optimal outcomes.

Develop and present multi-year benefit strategy and cost-containment roadmaps tailored to each client's workforce demographics, financial objectives, and risk tolerance.

Lead open enrollment strategy and execution for large accounts, including executive presentations, employee communication campaigns, and post-enrollment analytics.
Funding Analysis & Cost-Containment Strategy

Conduct comprehensive funding analysis across fully insured, level-funded, self-funded, captive, and alternative funding arrangements; advise clients on the optimal funding strategy based on their size, claims experience, and risk appetite.

Analyze claims experience, utilization data, pharmacy trends, and large claimant reports; develop cost-containment strategies including plan design changes, network optimization, wellness programs, and pharmacy management.

Prepare budget projections, contribution modeling, and total cost-of-benefit analyses for executive review.

Monitor and evaluate plan performance throughout the plan year; intervene proactively when trends indicate adverse cost or utilization patterns.
Compliance, Multi-State Expertise & PEO Consulting

Provide expert-level guidance on ACA compliance, ERISA, COBRA, Medicare coordination, HIPAA, and applicable state-level benefits regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Advise on PEO master plan design, open-market quoting strategy, multi-line benefits coordination, and client-specific plan carve-outs or carve-ins.

Monitor federal and state legislative developments affecting employee benefits; communicate impacts and recommended actions to clients and internal teams.

Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for complex compliance situations; escalate legal questions requiring outside counsel as appropriate.
Team Leadership & Development

Provide mentorship, training, and development guidance to Benefits Account Manager I and II staff; serve as the senior escalation point for complex client, carrier, and compliance questions.

Contribute to the development of department processes, playbooks, and best practices; lead or participate in team knowledge-sharing and professional development initiatives.

Assist in evaluating and onboarding new carrier partnerships and benefits vendors.

Follow company policies and procedures required to comply with applicable data privacy and confidentiality requirements, including but not limited to SOC controls and HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Finance, or a related field required.

8-15+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits consulting, account management, benefits brokerage, or a directly comparable senior-level client-facing role.

Active Florida Life and Health license required.

Demonstrated expertise in large-group benefits consulting including renewal strategy, carrier negotiations, funding analysis, and cost-containment program development.

Deep working knowledge of fully insured, level-funded, and self-funded health plan design and administration.

Experience advising on captive and alternative funding arrangements.

Strong expertise in multi-state employee benefits compliance including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Medicare, and applicable state regulations.

Proven ability to present complex financial analyses and strategic recommendations to C-suite and executive-level audiences.

Experience in PEO, large benefits brokerage, or HR outsourcing environment strongly preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including advanced Excel; experience with claims analytics platforms and benefits management systems.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate degree or professional certification in Employee Benefits, Human Resources, or a related field (e.g., CEBS, GBA, RPA).

Experience with pharmacy benefit management strategy, wellness program development, and large claimant management programs.

Established carrier relationships in the Florida and multi-state group benefits market.

Experience leading or mentoring a team of benefits professionals.

Familiarity with PEO master plan structures, open-market quoting, and multi-line benefits coordination.
