Full Job Description

About the Role

An established energy analytics and consulting company is seeking a Senior Software & Platform Engineer to help modernize and expand its commercial analytics platform.

We maintain proprietary datasets, analytical models and software used to evaluate power markets, transmission infrastructure and energy assets. We are undertaking a major development effort to improve existing products while building new capabilities in power-market forecasting, grid analytics, AI-assisted due diligence and data automation.

This is a hands-on senior engineering position. The successful candidate will work directly with company leadership, quantitative analysts and data specialists to improve the existing platform architecture and rapidly bring new analytical capabilities into production. We are looking for someone who can design systems as well as build them.

Key Responsibilities

· Modernize and extend an existing production analytics platform without disrupting current customers or revenue-producing products.

· Design a modular architecture that allows new analytical models, datasets and product features to be introduced quickly.

· Build and maintain backend services, APIs, data pipelines and database infrastructure.

· Integrate power-market forecasting, optimization and grid-analysis models into customer-facing applications.

· Support large geospatial and power-system datasets, including efficient storage, querying and visualization.

· Improve data ingestion and processing workflows in collaboration with Data Assurance personnel.

· Integrate AI/RAG capabilities that allow customers to query and analyze proprietary datasets and due-diligence information.

· Improve application performance, reliability, testing and observability.

· Support modernization of the customer-facing web application and analytical workflows.

· Establish strong software-development practices including Git, automated testing, CI/CD and deployment controls.

· Work with technical leadership on architecture, security, scalability and cloud infrastructure.

· Help transition research and analytical prototypes into maintainable production software.

Required Qualifications

· 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

· Strong Python development skills.

· Strong SQL and relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL/PostGIS.

· Experience designing and implementing production APIs and backend services.

· Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.

· Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines.

· Strong Git, testing and CI/CD practices.

· Ability to work with large, complex datasets and computational workflows.

· Experience designing maintainable, modular software architectures.

· Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and solve difficult technical problems.

Highly Desirable Experience

· JavaScript/TypeScript and React.

· Geospatial application development, including PostGIS, Mapbox, ArcGIS or similar technologies.

· Docker/containerized application development.

· AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda and managed database services.

· High-performance numerical or analytical computing.

· Integration of Python-based quantitative or optimization models into production applications.

· LLM/RAG applications, vector search or AI-assisted data workflows.

· Experience improving or re-architecting an existing production application rather than exclusively building greenfield software.

Energy Industry Experience

Experience in electricity markets is highly desirable but not required. Particularly relevant backgrounds include:

· ISO/RTO power markets, including ERCOT.

· Power trading and market analytics.

· Transmission and grid modeling.

· Renewable generation and battery storage.

· Energy price forecasting.

· Production-cost or optimization models.

· Utility or energy-market data.

· Energy asset valuation.

The successful candidate does not need to be the company's power-market quantitative expert. However, they must be comfortable working closely with quantitative specialists and converting analytical models into reliable production software.

What We're Looking For

This role is best suited to someone who enjoys working in a small, entrepreneurial technical team where individual engineers have significant responsibility.

You should be comfortable moving between architecture, backend development, databases, data pipelines and application integration rather than operating within a narrowly defined engineering function.

We particularly value engineers who can look at an existing system, understand what should be preserved, identify what is limiting future development, and incrementally improve the architecture while continuing to ship customer-facing features.
