Build and Release Engineer (Contract)
Location: Cincinnati, OH — Hybrid (3 days onsite)

About the Role
We're hiring a Build and Release Engineer to own the coordination and execution of production releases for a modern, AWS-based platform. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role at the center of the release lifecycle—you'll manage deployments, drive cutovers, and partner across infrastructure, network, security, and production support teams to keep the platform reliable, secure, and compliant.
It's an ideal fit for someone who blends release and operations know-how with enough coding fluency to read, debug, and make targeted changes when needed. You'll work across both cloud and on-prem systems, supporting a platform built on microservices and microfrontends.
What You'll Do
- Own and coordinate production releases—managing release processes, validating deployments, handling cutovers, and ensuring smooth, reliable execution.
- Partner with network, infrastructure, and production support teams to resolve platform issues, plan migrations, and maintain system health.
- Support deployment workflows and release pipelines, working alongside the teams that manage CI/CD.
- Drive recurring operational tasks—certificate renewals, patching, infrastructure upgrades, and environment maintenance across AWS and on-prem systems.
- Lead PCI, vulnerability management, and remediation efforts in coordination with developers, security, and infrastructure teams.
- Make code changes as needed to support infrastructure, configuration, or compliance initiatives.
- Support cloud migrations, deprecations, and modernization efforts across AWS and on-prem workloads.
- Help ensure observability, logging, and monitoring are in place to improve system reliability.
What We're Looking For
- Experience coordinating and executing production releases, including deployment validation and cutover management.
- Solid understanding of AWS services, cloud architecture, and on-prem infrastructure concepts.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and deployment workflows (e.g., Jenkins).
- Ability to read, debug, and contribute to code—Java/Spring Boot, Angular, Ionic, REST services, and microservices.
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux command-line fundamentals.
- Knowledge of PCI, vulnerability management, patching, and secure development practices.
- Experience supporting production environments and troubleshooting across distributed systems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across engineering, production support, network, and infrastructure teams.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field from a four-year college or university.
- 5+ years of professional experience in build/release engineering, platform engineering, software development, or a related technical role.
Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
