Job Overview

Legal Administrative Assistant/Paralegal

Pay: $46,000 - $55,000 / Paralegal negotiable

BMSA has a current opening for an experienced legal administrative assistant or paralegal to provide support to the areas of labor and employment, workers compensation, and litigation. Solid understanding of legal procedures and terminology is required. Successful candidates will possess a strong work ethic, ability to effectively communicate with others, keen attention to details, understand the importance and adherence to deadlines.

Responsibilities

Draft pleadings and other legal documents
Prepare various court filings both electronically and paper copies
Review, revise and format briefs, discovery, contracts, and other legal documents
Review legal documents for completeness, validity, format, grammar and typographical errors
Transcribe from dictation
Maintain file organization both electronically and paper copies
Complete and process require forms for opening of new client files or matters
Calendaring and scheduling appointments and managing contacts
Handle incoming phone calls for assigned attorney
Process attorney mail in a proper and timely manner
Schedule and coordinate depositions and assist with trial preparation
Interact professionally with clients, court personnel and other counsel
Maintain confidentiality of client information
Record attorney time to electronic billing system
Work with marketing department for projects related to assigned attorney, coordinate all civic/community involvement activities and assist with marketing efforts
Prepare expense reports for assigned attorneys

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum of two years of experience working in a law firm
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
Willingness to learn and be trained to utilize the firm’s document management software
Familiarity with local, state, and federal filing rules
Organized and deadline driven
Positive attitude and willingness to be part of a team
Detail oriented with excellent grammar and proofreading skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously through completion
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks within set deadlines
