Barista / Café Team Member

Milagros Coffee House – A Social Enterprise of La Puente
Pay: Starting at $15.16/hour + tips
Part-Time | Day Shift | Weekend Availability Required

About Us

Milagros Coffee House is more than a café. As a social enterprise of La Puente, every cup served helps support programs addressing homelessness, hunger, and crisis prevention throughout the San Luis Valley.

We are looking for a dependable, hospitality-focused professional who understands the pace, standards, and teamwork required in food service and who wants their work to have community impact.

Important: This Is Not an Entry-Level Position

While we are happy to train the right candidate on espresso preparation and our coffee program, strong food service experience is required. Candidates without recent restaurant, café, food service, or hospitality experience may not be competitive for this role.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent food service, café, restaurant, catering, or hospitality experience
Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
Ability to manage multiple drink and food orders while maintaining quality, urgency, and professionalism
Strong understanding of food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
Experience with cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and guest service
Reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and the ability to arrive prepared for each shift
Ability to remain calm, organized, and positive during busy service periods

Preferred Qualifications

Prior barista or specialty coffee experience
Experience with espresso equipment, grinders, and drink consistency
Food Handler certification
Experience with opening/closing procedures, inventory, or shift leadership

Core Responsibilities

Provide warm, professional hospitality to every guest
Prepare espresso beverages, coffee, teas, seasonal drinks, and food items to established standards
Assist with breakfast, lunch, baked goods, soups, and other café offerings
Accurately process customer transactions
Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout the café
Complete opening, closing, and side-work assignments
Monitor product levels, rotate stock, and communicate supply needs
Help maintain a welcoming environment that reflects Milagros’ connection to La Puente’s mission
Jump in wherever needed during peak service periods

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
Ability to move quickly between front-of-house, beverage preparation, food prep, and cleaning tasks
Comfortable working mornings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume rush periods
