Assistant Statewide Training Director

The Alaska Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Trust is seeking a motivated and organized Assistant Statewide Training Director to support the administration and operation of its statewide electrical apprenticeship and training programs.
This leadership position works closely with the Statewide Training Director, apprenticeship committees, employers, union representatives, instructors, apprentices, administrative staff, industry partners, workforce organizations, and state and federal agencies. The Assistant Statewide Training Director will help ensure high-quality training, effective apprentice support, regulatory compliance, and consistent program operations across Alaska.
The ideal candidate will have experience in apprenticeship training, workforce development, electrical industry training, program administration, or a related field. Strong communication, organization, leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesStatewide Apprenticeship Program Support
- Assist the Statewide Training Director with administration and oversight of statewide apprenticeship and training programs.
- Support coordination of program operations across the Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Ketchikan areas.
- Assist with implementation of apprenticeship standards, policies, procedures, and committee decisions.
- Support consistent program administration across all training locations.
- Assist with development and implementation of annual training plans.
Apprentice Management
- Monitor apprentice progress in on-the-job training and related classroom instruction.
- Track apprentice attendance, academic performance, work assignments, and required training.
- Assist with apprentice disciplinary investigations and documentation.
- Prepare materials and documentation for apprenticeship committee review when necessary.
- Assist with apprentice notifications, decision letters, orientations, and other communications.
- Support the application, interview, selection, eligibility, indenture, and orientation processes for new apprentices.
- Coordinate interview schedules with committee members and maintain eligibility lists.
Instructor and Training Support
- Assist with scheduling classes and coordinating instructors.
- Support instructors with classroom and training needs.
- Monitor classroom performance and attendance.
- Assist with curriculum implementation and development.
- Coordinate required supplemental and specialty training.
- Support training programs including Wireman, Lineman, Inside and Outside Telecommunications, Tree Trimmers, Basic Electricity, Craft Certification, First Aid/CPR, NEC training, mentorship, and other workforce-development programs.
- Assist with online and technology-supported training programs.
Department of Labor & Compliance
- Assist with compliance with U.S. Department of Labor and Office of Apprenticeship requirements.
- Maintain accurate apprenticeship records and documentation.
- Assist with preparation for compliance reviews and audits.
- Support updates to apprenticeship Standards, Policy Guides, and related program documents.
- Assist with maintaining the program's Equal Employment Opportunity Plan.
- Support required reporting and regulatory submissions.
Committee Support
- Assist with preparation for and participation in apprenticeship committee meetings.
- Coordinate meeting materials, action items, correspondence, and follow-up.
- Assist with implementing committee decisions.
- Prepare apprentice notifications and related correspondence.
- Work with legal counsel and the Statewide Training Director on matters requiring legal or regulatory guidance.
Employer & Union Relations
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with employers and union representatives.
- Respond professionally and promptly to employer and union inquiries by phone and email.
- Assist with apprenticeship-related matters involving collective bargaining agreements.
- Support effective communication between employers, union representatives, apprentices, instructors, and program leadership.
- Help identify and resolve training and apprenticeship issues.
Outreach & Workforce Development
- Represent the apprenticeship program at career fairs, school events, workforce development conferences, and community outreach activities.
- Assist with presentations to high schools, vocational programs, school districts, legislators, workforce organizations, and industry partners.
- Support statewide recruitment and advertising efforts.
- Promote electrical apprenticeship opportunities throughout Alaska.
- Participate in relevant local, statewide, and national training organizations and industry events.
Financial, Grant & Administrative Support
- Assist with preparation and tracking of annual training budgets.
- Support financial recordkeeping and administrative processes.
- Assist with grant applications, administration, distribution, accounting, and reporting.
- Support annual audits and required surveys.
- Assist with tracking employer contributions and related training program information.
- Work with the Statewide Training Director and appropriate financial personnel on program expenditures and financial matters.
Facility & Training Operations
- Assist with management of training facilities throughout the state.
- Coordinate repairs, upgrades, supplies, janitorial services, and computer support as needed.
- Support development and maintenance of training labs.
- Help ensure classrooms and training facilities are safe, functional, and properly equipped.
Travel & Statewide Support
- Travel within Alaska as needed to support training operations, committee meetings, apprentice interviews, workforce development activities, and training programs.
- Occasional out-of-state travel may be required for training conferences, industry meetings, and professional development.
- Support operations in multiple Alaska training locations and maintain effective communication with statewide partners.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess:
- Experience in apprenticeship training, workforce development, electrical industry training, education, program administration, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with apprentices, instructors, employers, union representatives, committees, trustees, government agencies, and community partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency with common office, email, scheduling, and recordkeeping software.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Alaska and occasionally outside the state.
Preferred qualifications may include experience with registered apprenticeship programs, Department of Labor compliance, electrical construction or training, grant administration, curriculum development, workforce development, or labor-management programs.

- Salary: DOE (Depending on Experience)
- Defined Benefit: Employer contribution of 22% of salary
- Defined Contribution Plan: Employer contribution of $2.00 per hour based on 173.33 hours per month
