Alaska Roteq, an Impel Company, is a full-line industrial repair facility and distributor based in Wasilla, Alaska. We operate out of a 35,000-square-foot facility and specialize in repairing and servicing heavy rotating equipment for the oil and gas, mining, power generation, and manufacturing industries.
Position Summary
The Manual / CNC Machinist is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and CNC machine tools used in the repair and manufacture of metallic and non-metallic components. This position requires the ability to independently plan, lay out, machine, and repair complex parts from engineering drawings, sketches, sample parts, and verbal instructions while maintaining precise tolerances. The Machinist plays a critical role in supporting Alaska Roteq’s rotating equipment repair and manufacturing operations by ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in all machining processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and lay out machining and repair work from engineering drawings, sketches, sample parts, and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Set up, adjust, and operate manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture and repair components in accordance with specifications.
- Produce precision-machined parts while maintaining tolerances of .0005 inches or less.
- Select, grind, and modify tooling required to perform machining operations.
- Verify dimensional accuracy and compliance using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Perform machining operations on a variety of metallic and non-metallic materials.
- Inspect machined components for conformance to drawings, specifications, and company quality standards.
- Assist in training and mentoring machinists, machine operators, and trainees as needed.
- Maintain equipment, maintenance records, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Perform routine maintenance on assigned machinery, including monitoring fluid levels, lubrication, and general machine condition.
- Follow all company quality assurance standards, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Adhere to all workplace safety regulations and ensure safe handling of parts, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate effectively with coworkers to promote teamwork, trust, integrity, and respect in the workplace.
- Operate multiple machines and perform overtime work as required to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
- Support field machining projects and travel as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Minimum of four (4) years of machine shop experience and/or related training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, and precision measurement techniques.
- Working knowledge of shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to solve practical machining and manufacturing problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions regarding machining processes.
Preferred
- Graduation from and certification by an accredited machinist trade school.
- Experience programming and operating CNC equipment.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and Mastercam software.
- Experience in job-shop type repair machining, rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, and related industrial equipment.
- Experience with portable machining equipment such as Climax or other.

Physical Requirements
- Regularly stand for extended periods.
- Frequently use hands and arms for handling, positioning, and operating equipment.
- Occasionally walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance or mechanical lifting equipment.
- Possess close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for precision work.
Work Environment
- Primarily performed in a machine shop environment.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions and electrical hazards.
- Moderate noise levels are typical.
- Occasional travel may be required for customer field service projects.
Additional Requirements
- Compliance with Alaska Roteq’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy, including random drug testing.
- Must pass a Criminal Background check and Motor Vehicle Report check
- Adherence to all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Ability to relocate to or work from the Wasilla, Alaska location.
- Alaska driver’s license
- Must qualify for a TWIC card
