Help Build a Different Kind of School

Every child deserves a school where they are known, understood, and supported.

Beacon Academy of Knoxville is opening in August 2026 to serve autistic students and students with related neurodevelopmental needs. We are building a calm, structured, regulation-informed learning environment where students are supported academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally.

We are looking for founding team members who want to help build a school from the very beginning.

What Makes Beacon Different

Our classrooms are intentionally small so staff can truly know each student.

We believe students learn best when they feel emotionally safe, respected, and understood. We use predictable routines, visual supports, flexible pacing, communication supports, movement, and individualized strategies to help students participate successfully throughout the school day.

At Beacon, Teaching Assistants are essential members of the classroom team—not simply extra hands.

What You’ll Do

As a Founding Teaching Assistant / Student Support Staff member, you will help students participate safely and meaningfully throughout the school day while supporting the Teacher and classroom team.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting students during classroom activities, transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, movement, recess, and daily routines
Helping students use communication, regulation, sensory, visual, proximity, and task supports
Supporting student participation, independence, dignity, and safety
Assisting with teacher-directed instruction, small-group activities, and individual student support
Following classroom routines, student goals, prompting expectations, and support strategies
Helping prepare materials, organize spaces, reset classrooms, and support daily operations
Collecting brief observations or student data when trained and directed
Communicating concerns and observations to the Teacher or Program Administrator
Participating in staff meetings, coaching, training, and classroom planning
Greeting families warmly when assigned while redirecting questions about progress, behavior, services, staffing, or policy to the Teacher or Program Administrator

Is comfortable supporting communication, sensory, regulation, and transition needs
Communicates respectfully and professionally

Welcomes coaching, feedback, and continual learning
Wants to help build something meaningful from the beginning

Experience in autism support, special education, childcare, classroom support, tutoring, camps, youth programs, therapy support, communication support, sensory support, or behavior/regulation support is helpful.

Position Details

Position: Founding Teaching Assistant / Student Support Staff
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Schedule: Full-time school-day schedule, approximately 30 hours per week
Start Date: August 6, 2026
Pay: $21–$22 per hour
Reports to: Program Administrator
Daily direction from: Assigned Teacher and/or Program Administrator
