Celebrating 20+ years, Small Business Majority (SBM) is a 501c3 national small business organization that empowers America's diverse entrepreneurs to build a thriving and equitable economy. We engage our network of more than 85,000 small businesses and 1,500 business and community organizations to connect entrepreneurs with valuable business resources and advocate for public policy solutions that promote equitable small business growth. We have a particular focus on supporting the smallest businesses and those in under-resourced communities. Our work is bolstered by extensive research that enables us to target and measure our programs most effectively and to educate stakeholders and policymakers about key issues impacting America’s entrepreneurs.

Recognizing that small businesses are an underappreciated, underutilized, and potent progressive political ally, we have created a separate and independent 501c4 organization, Small Business Victory Fund (SBVF), and a related PAC, to expand work in the political arena - specifically, to support political candidates with a strong progressive small business agenda. The confluence of politics and policy elevates the potential for small business to be a uniting force to win elections across the myriad demographics in our society and across the breadth of political identity. Our organizing and media work depends upon mobilizing small business owners.

We seek a candidate with strong organizing experience in Southern California to support our 501c3 and 501c4 work in Southern California. The ability to regularly travel (25%) within the region.

This fall the work will be primarily 501c4/PAC/Independent Expenditure (IE) focused on one or two 2026 congressional campaigns in Southern California. We are open to candidates for part- or full-time work. The is a possibility that this work could be converted into a full-time employment position after the election depending on success and budgets.

Responsibilities:

· Organize small business owners to add their voices to independent expenditure (IE) efforts supporting candidates in congressional races in CD48 (San Diego to Palm Springs) and potentially CD45 (LA and Orange counties). Activities include events and small business participation in media outreach.

· Advise on strategy and media outreach as part of the IE work.

· Collaborate with local partner organizations (e.g. local chambers and other business organizations) in pursuing our IE and 501c3 policy & advocacy goals.

· Help prepare small business owners for external media and other communication opportunities.

· Regional travel throughout Southern California.

· Work from a home office.

Qualifications:

· Minimum 5 years’ experience in advocacy, public policy, and/or political organizing required with demonstrated success. Outreach or public engagement experience, work within the business community is a plus.

· General knowledge of California’s political and economic landscape, and in-depth knowledge of Southern California’s political and economic landscape.

· Strong ability and proven-track record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships with a variety of external stakeholders.

· Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

· Ability to work in a flexible, entrepreneurial environment with frequently shifting priorities, deadlines, evolving internal processes and structures

· Self-starter who has demonstrated ability to network with small business owners, business organizations and policymakers

· Experience with Salesforce CRM is a plus

· Successful experience fundraising from corporate and/or philanthropic institutions is a plus

· Experience working for an elected official is a plus

· Bilingual ability (esp. English/Spanish) is a plus

Salary Range: $50 - $60 per hour depending on experience
