City Machine & Welding, Inc., an established Amarillo company with more than a century of experience in manufacturing, welding, and repair, is seeking an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator to join our team.
We offer a unique compressed work schedule designed to provide employees with greater work-life balance while maintaining full-time weekly compensation.
Standard Work Schedule
- Monday–Thursday
- 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- One-hour unpaid lunch
- 32 hours actually worked
- 40 hours of pay
Under the standard schedule, employees work four 8-hour days, totaling 32 actual work hours, but receive compensation equivalent to 40 hours at their regular hourly rate.
Friday Rotation
Employees may be required to work approximately every third Friday, depending on production and business needs.
When an employee works a full Friday shift:
- Monday–Thursday: 32 hours worked
- Friday: 8 additional hours worked
- Total actual hours worked: 40 hours
- Total compensation: 48 hours of pay
Employees do not lose the additional eight hours of compensation provided through the compressed-workweek benefit when they are required to work Friday.
Overtime eligibility begins when an employee actually works more than 40 hours during the applicable workweek, in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour laws and company policy.
Potential future night-shift opportunities may become available based on company needs.
Position Summary
City Machine & Welding, Inc. is seeking an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator who can independently perform welding and fabrication work in a manufacturing and repair environment.
The successful candidate must interpret blueprints, understand industry-standard welding symbols, accurately measure and fabricate components, and perform MIG welding using solid wire with little to no assistance.
This position requires strong welding and fabrication fundamentals, attention to detail, dependability, and the ability to complete assigned work safely and accurately with limited supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding using solid wire on a variety of fabricated components and assemblies.
- Manufacture and fabricate parts, components and assemblies from blueprints and specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and fabrication plans.
- Understand and properly apply industry-standard welding symbols.
- Accurately measure, fit, align and prepare materials before welding.
- Perform fit-up and assembly of fabricated components.
- Verify dimensions and finished work against drawings, specifications and work orders.
- Inspect welds and completed fabrication work for quality and accuracy.
- Identify fabrication or welding issues and make appropriate corrections.
- Operate applicable fabrication tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain personal tools required for the welding and fabrication trade.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow established company safety procedures and work practices.
- Work independently with limited supervision once assignments and specifications are provided.
- Maintain production quality while meeting established deadlines.
- Assist with other manufacturing, fabrication, or repair activities as required.
Welding Test and Certification Requirements: Pre-Employment Welding Test
Candidates must complete a pre-employment MIG welding test as part of the selection process.
The test evaluates the applicant's ability to perform the welding skills required for the position.
Welder Certification
Following employment, the employee must complete the company's required MIG welding certification test within the established training and qualification timeframe.
Continued welder qualification is subject to applicable company procedures, quality standards, and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Minimum 1 year of welding experience.
- Experience performing MIG welding with solid wire.
- Ability to fabricate from blueprints with little to no assistance.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Working knowledge of industry-standard welding symbols.
- Ability to accurately measure, fit, and fabricate components.
- Ability to perform welding and fabrication work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to inspect completed work and identify defects or discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic and personal accountability.
- Consistent and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing and repair environment.
Personal Tools
Employees are expected to provide their own basic personal tools of the welding and fabrication trade.
