Architectural Metal Installer
Performance Pay | Full-Time | Based in Ames, Iowa
C&K is hiring Architectural Metal Installers and Lead Installers to join our growing commercial installation team.
We are looking for people who take pride in building things correctly, work well with their hands, and want their earnings tied to performance—not simply time on the clock. Previous architectural metal experience is valuable, but experience in construction, framing, roofing, siding, metal buildings, or similar trades can also provide a strong foundation.
Lead Installers will guide small crews, coordinate field execution, and take responsibility for production and quality. Installers and Helpers will work alongside experienced team members while developing their skills and taking on greater responsibility.
Our crews install architectural sheet metal systems on commercial projects throughout Iowa. Work may include coping, fascia, flashings, edge metal, wall panels, trims, gutters, screens, and related components.
What You’ll Do
- Install pre-fabricated and custom-fabricated architectural sheet metal systems
- Measure, lay out, cut, fit, fasten, and seal metal components
- Read plans, elevations, details, layouts, and field measurements
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other jobsite equipment
- Help coordinate materials, tools, equipment, and jobsite execution
- Solve field-fit and installation challenges while maintaining quality
- Work efficiently as part of a small crew
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Communicate with crew leaders, shop support, and project leadership
- Protect completed work and prevent mistakes, damage, and callbacks
What We’re Looking For
We are interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Architectural sheet metal
- Commercial roofing or roofing-related metal
- Siding and exterior wall systems
- Metal buildings
- Framing or general construction
- Flashings, trims, gutters, or façade components
- Blueprint reading, layout, or field measurement
The right candidate will be:
- Reliable, organized, and ready to work
- Comfortable learning technical installation details
- Able to think spatially and solve problems in the field
- Focused on both production and workmanship
- Comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, and from ladders and lifts
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Willing to take ownership and be accountable to the crew
- Interested in developing specialized skills and increasing earning potential
Previous architectural metal experience is preferred for Lead Installers. Candidates with related construction experience may be considered for Installer or Helper positions and trained for advancement.
Performance-Based Pay
This position uses a performance-based pay structure tied to completed work.
C&K writes labor contracts for defined projects or portions of work. Each contract is assigned a labor value based on the scope, complexity, and hours reasonably expected to complete the work. Pay is distributed as work is completed and accepted.
Crews that complete quality work efficiently can earn more. The more effective the installer and crew, the greater the earning potential.
Lead Installers receive a larger share of each contract in recognition of their responsibility for crew coordination, production, quality, safety, and successful completion. Installers and Helpers can earn larger shares as their skills, independence, and contribution increase.
Our contracts are built with ample labor hours for qualified crews. The goal is to reward people who produce strong work, stay organized, prevent callbacks, and keep projects moving.
