Position Summary
The Fabrication & Assembly Lead is responsible for leading a team of fabricators and assemblers in the construction of compressed natural gas (CNG) transport trailers and related equipment. This role oversees the fabrication, welding, assembly, and final outfitting of each trailer from start to finish, ensuring every unit is built safely, accurately, and in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules.
This is a working lead position that combines technical expertise with hands-on leadership. The Fabrication & Assembly Lead works alongside the team while coordinating daily activities, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead, train, and mentor a team of fabricators, welders, and assemblers.
Assign daily work and monitor production progress to meet delivery schedules.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and bills of materials.
Fabricate trailer frames, supports, brackets, and structural components using appropriate fabrication equipment.
Perform or oversee MIG, TIG, and/or FCAW welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components as required.
Assemble complete trailer systems, including structural frames, compressed natural gas tanks, mounting hardware, hose reels, valves, fittings, manifolds, piping, and related equipment.
Measure, cut, fit, align, and secure components to precise specifications.
Inspect completed welds and assemblies to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with company quality standards.
Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues and implement effective solutions.
Coordinate material needs with purchasing and inventory personnel to minimize production delays.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
Perform final inspections before units move to testing or customer delivery.
Identify opportunities to improve workflow, quality, efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
Required:
5+ years of fabrication, welding, or heavy equipment manufacturing experience.
2+ years of experience leading or supervising production personnel.
Strong blueprint and mechanical drawing interpretation skills.
Proficiency with welding processes including MIG; TIG and FCAW experience preferred.
Experience using fabrication equipment including saws, presses, grinders, plasma cutters, drill presses, and measuring instruments.
Ability to accurately measure and fabricate structural components within specified tolerances.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment (or ability to become certified).
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred:
Experience building trailers, heavy equipment, pressure vessels, industrial skids, or transportation equipment.
AWS welding certification.
Experience with compressed natural gas (CNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), hydraulic, pneumatic, or piping systems.
Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Pay:
Based on experience and skills. Base is between $21-$26 per hour, overtime eligible, leadership training provided.
Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
