The Cafeteria Director provides direct oversight, leadership, and expertise for a high-quality food service program split across St. Joseph Catholic School and St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School. They are responsible for the organization of all food service functions, personnel, facilities, and services across both school locations.
Essential Functions:
● Supervise, evaluate, and hire all cafeteria staff.
● Plan menus in compliance with USDA meal guidelines.
● Order food and supplies while monitoring inventory for the food service department.
● Process and submit invoices and bills for prompt payment to vendors.
● Develop, administer, and monitor RFPs, contracts, procurement of food, equipment, supplies, services, uniforms, and contract pricing.
● Maintain all health standards and records for school food service and its employees.
● Perform all required internal and State of Iowa reporting functions.
● Monitor equipment and acquire repair estimates when necessary.
● Assure compliance with all aspects of the National School Lunch and Breakfast program mandated by USDA, Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals, and any other government agency.
● Complete successful administrative reviews from the Iowa Department of Education.
● Maintain integrity required to appropriately handle cash and other payments, following strict internal procedures.
● Manage Iowa Eligibility processes.
Hiring/Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, or a related field
● ServSafe certified Food Production Manager or willing to successfully complete in the first 3 months of employment
● Experience in a school food service program, including supervisory experience
● Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students
● High level of typing accuracy and speed; a strong knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation required
● Knowledge of point of sale software
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
● Physical requirements include sitting, talking, listening, reading, writing, and standing a minimum of 3 hours daily
● Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 30-50 lbs regularly
● Environmental requirements include working indoors along with kitchen heat, refrigerator/freezer temperatures, and humidity of a dish room
● Noise levels are moderate to high
