Seminole State College of Florida is seeking an experienced and passionate Teaching Faculty member in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) to join our team and play a key role in preparing students for careers in the clinical laboratory profession.
This is an exciting opportunity for a medical laboratory professional who enjoys teaching, mentoring students, collaborating with industry partners, and helping shape the future of healthcare education.
In this role, you will combine classroom instruction with program leadership, helping ensure students receive high-quality, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for professional certification and successful careers in the clinical laboratory field.
You will work closely with faculty, clinical partners, healthcare organizations, advisory committees, and College leadership to support student success, maintain program quality, and ensure the MLT program remains responsive to evolving healthcare and workforce needs.
About the Position
This is a temporary, full-time, non-bargaining faculty position and is not on track for continuing contract. The standard contract length is 228 days; however, other contract lengths may be available based on department needs.
Assigned campus locations may vary based on enrollment and program needs. The position may include day, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
What You'll Do
Teach & Support Student Success
- Plan, organize, and teach Medical Laboratory Technology courses as assigned.
- Create engaging learning experiences that support student learning, retention, and successful completion of program competencies.
- Incorporate current instructional strategies, technology, and innovative teaching methods into the classroom and laboratory environment.
- Engage with students both inside and outside the classroom and provide guidance related to academic progress.
- Maintain required office hours and provide individual and small-group student support.
- Stay current in medical laboratory science, clinical practices, technology, and teaching methodologies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including those offered through Seminole State's Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Help Lead & Grow the MLT Program
- Provide leadership in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Medical Laboratory Technology program.
- Support program planning and growth initiatives that respond to student and workforce needs.
- Develop course schedules and coordinate program offerings to support student progression and timely completion.
- Collaborate with College leadership, faculty, staff, and other departments on program strategy and initiatives.
- Support recruitment, outreach, marketing, admissions activities, and community engagement to increase program visibility and enrollment.
Strengthen Clinical & Industry Partnerships
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clinical affiliates, healthcare employers, professional organizations, advisory committee members, and other community partners.
- Coordinate clinical education activities, including clinical placements, affiliation agreements, and communication with clinical sites.
- Serve as a liaison between the College and clinical partners to support high-quality student learning experiences.
- Facilitate advisory committee activities and use industry feedback to strengthen curriculum and ensure workforce relevance.
- Identify opportunities to engage healthcare and community partners in support of the College's mission and student success.
Ensure Quality & Accreditation
- Support compliance with institutional policies, state regulations, professional certification requirements, and NAACLS accreditation standards.
- Coordinate accreditation and program assessment activities, including reports, documentation, outcomes data, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor program outcomes and performance measures and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate program records and prepare reports related to enrollment, student outcomes, clinical education, accreditation, and program effectiveness.
Support Faculty, Facilities & Program Resources
- Support faculty and clinical instructors through orientation, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development.
- Collaborate with faculty to continuously improve curriculum and instructional practices.
- Help oversee program laboratories, equipment, supplies, instructional technology, and facilities.
- Provide budget recommendations and help ensure resources support effective program operations.
- Maintain necessary supplies and equipment and support a safe, effective learning environment.
Contribute to the College Community
- Participate in department and College committees, meetings, trainings, and events, including graduation.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the College to support student success and institutional priorities.
- Contribute to a collegial, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Participate in professional development and other College activities as appropriate.
- Perform other position-specific responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Candidates must meet one of the credentialing pathways established by the College's Credentialing Manual.
Option 1
- Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related Health/Science field, preferred; and
- MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent; and
- Three years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing or in teaching/administration; and
- Applicable valid Florida state license(s).
Option 2
- Master's degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences or a closely related discipline, with 18 graduate credit hours in one or more of the following:
- Medical Laboratory Science
- Medical Laboratory Technology
- Clinical Laboratory Science
- MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent; and
- Five years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing in the discipline being taught; and
- Applicable valid Florida state license(s).
Option 3
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a closely related Biological Science field; and
- Current MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent; and
- Five years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing testing in the discipline being taught; and
- Active Florida Clinical Laboratory License, as applicable.

Work Environment & Schedule
This position primarily works in classroom, laboratory, and office environments and may require travel between College campuses and other local destinations.
The position may require a flexible schedule, including day, evening, and weekend responsibilities, based on program and student needs.
