Part-Time Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) — Evenings & Weekends
Part-Time · 15–25 hours/week · 2–3 shifts/week · No overnights
Help us bring urgent care to the Fox Valley when it's needed most.
Veterinary clinics across the Fox Valley have told us the same thing: pet owners need an urgent care option on evenings and weekends — the exact hours most clinics are closed. We're expanding our schedule to fill that gap, and we're looking for part-time CVTs to help us do it.
Transcend Veterinary Urgent Care sits between your family vet and the emergency hospital. We provide same-day urgent care for dogs and cats — no appointments, no ER prices, no overnight shifts. By adding evening and weekend hours, we're giving Fox Valley families a place to turn when something can't wait until Monday but doesn't need a midnight ER visit.
Shift Windows
We're building a team of part-time CVTs who each cover a consistent, recurring schedule. During the hiring process, we'll work together to find a pattern that fits — but once set, we count on you to be there.
- Weekday evenings — Shifts fall within a 2:00 PM–10:00 PM window
- Weekends — Shifts fall within a 9:00 AM–7:00 PM window
- Minimum commitment — 2 shifts per week, consistently
You don't need to cover every evening and every weekend — but you do need to commit to a reliable, recurring schedule.
Who this is for
Whether you're a seasoned CVT looking for predictable part-time hours, someone who wants a meaningful second role, or a technician stepping back from full-time work — if you want to use your skills where they matter without a 40-hour grind, we'd love to meet you.
About the Role
As a part-time Certified Veterinary Technician with Transcend Veterinary, you will not be parked on the treatment floor running someone else's protocols. You will be trusted to practice to the full extent of your license and help shape how we deliver urgent care on evenings and weekends. If you are credentialed, experienced, and looking for a few shifts that respect your skills, this is for you.
This role is best for a CVT who wants stable part-time work, predictable evening/weekend shifts, and meaningful hands-on patient care. It may be a good fit for experienced CVTs looking for supplemental hours, CVTs stepping back from full-time work, or strong newer CVTs who want structured hands-on growth in an urgent care setting.
Who We Are
At Transcend Veterinary, our mission is to serve our community by increasing access to veterinary care starting with dedicated urgent care services. In an area where general practices are often overwhelmed and emergency hospitals struggle with excessive caseloads, we provide a much-needed alternative. By offering timely care, we not only support pet owners but also serve as a relief valve for local clinics, easing their workload and helping prevent burnout.
Just as importantly, we are creating a workplace where veterinary professionals and staff can thrive by reigniting their passion in the field. We know that fulfillment comes from being empowered to innovate, explore new ideas, and contribute in ways that truly inspire you. That is why we are building an environment that values open communication, respects different perspectives, and supports well-being rather than draining it. At Transcend, we encourage you to take control of your job, your career, and shape it into something that brings you joy and purpose.
Our urgent care clinic is more than just a service, it is a mission-driven effort to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time role built specifically to cover our evening and weekend shifts. We are looking for team members who actively want these hours, whether to supplement another job, balance family schedules, or stay engaged in patient care without a full-time commitment.
· Hours per week: Flexible. 15 to 25 hours per week, with scheduling built around your availability. Most team members work 2-3 shifts per week
· Shifts evolve with the team: We will agree on a consistent schedule before hire. Start/end times may vary slightly as the service grows, but our goal is predictable scheduling, not last-minute changes.
· Weekday coverage opportunity: As weekday shifts open up through scheduled time off, busy stretches, or team growth, part-time team members will be the first people we ask to pick up additional hours. If you want more hours, we want to give them to you first.
· Minimum commitment: We ask for a consistent pattern you can reliably cover each month. If life changes, we will work with you to re-pattern the schedule.
Responsibilities
· Patient Care: Triage and manage urgent care cases alongside the veterinarian on shift, including patient assessment, anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and post-op monitoring.
· Diagnostics: Perform in-house lab work (CBC, Chemistry, UA, SNAP, electrolytes, blood gas, coagulation), collect and prepare samples, run cytology, and capture diagnostic radiographs and ultrasound images under veterinary direction.
· Treatments & Procedures: Administer medications and fluids, assist with and/or run dental procedures, perform wound care, place catheters, and support surgical procedures in our dedicated surgery suite.
· Client Communication: Communicate treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up recommendations directly with clients, clearly and compassionately.
· Record Keeping: Utilize our cloud-based practice management software, Shepherd, to document assessments, treatments, and medications.
· Team Support: Mentor and support veterinary assistants on shift, help maintain a clean and well-stocked treatment area, and contribute to shift hand-offs that set the next team up for success.
What You Will Not Be Expected to Do: At Transcend Veterinary, CVTs will not be expected to scribe for veterinarians. We utilize scribes to handle documentation. While you may enter your own assessments and treatments, our goal is to limit administrative tasks so you can focus on using the full range of your skills in patient care.
Qualifications
· Completion of ONE of the following pathways to CVT certification (or equivalent credential such as RVT or LVT): (a) Associate or bachelor's degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA-accredited program and successful passing of the VTNE, OR (b) Completion of the required work experience and successful passing of the VTNE.
· Wisconsin State CVT Certification (or obtained upon hire).
· Comfortable supporting urgent-care cases with the veterinarian on shift, including anesthesia monitoring, emergency stabilization support, and independent nursing tasks appropriate to your training and experience.
· Reliable availability within the 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM weekday and 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM weekend windows.
· Strong technical skills: comfortable with cloud-based practice management software and quick to learn new tools.
What We Offer
· Growth & Career Development: We believe CVTs should be fully utilized to the full legal extent of their training and expertise. Part-time CVTs are eligible to participate in our weekly case reviews (schedule permitting) and CE opportunities.
· Predictable scheduling: Because our evening and weekend team is starting out small and tight-knit, your shifts matter. We plan schedules thoughtfully, confirm coverage early, and avoid last-minute changes except in true emergencies.
· Queue-Based System: Our urgent care operates on a queue-based system, allowing the team to work at a comfortable pace and give each case the time it deserves.
· High Standard of Patient Care: Minimum DVM:Staff ratio goal of 1:3 ensures optimal support. You will work with a Veterinarian-led team including a Vet Assistant and CSR dedicated to your team.
· Emphasis on Technology: We use modern cloud-based tools to reduce busywork, streamline records, and keep shifts organized.
· Commitment to Fear-Free & Low-Stress Handling: We prioritize the emotional well-being of our patients by implementing fear-free and low-stress handling techniques.
· Voice on the team: Even as a part-time team member, your feedback on how evening and weekend shifts should run matters. We genuinely want that feedback so we can adjust before small frustrations turn into burnout.
· Pathway to More Hours (and Full Benefits): Evening and weekend team members are given first priority when weekday shifts become available. Team members who consistently work 25+ hours per week are eligible for full benefits. For those who want more hours over time, a clear growth path is available.

Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Pay Range: $21.00 to $27.00 per hour

Want full benefits? There is a path. This role is built for 15 to 25 hours per week, but as the team stabilizes and weekday shifts open up, team members who consistently work 25 or more hours per week become eligible for full benefits.
