Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join this county tax collector and state motor vehicle office! In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all financial activities. Your expertise will support the organization’s financial health by handling bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and financial data analysis with precision and professionalism. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced environment where your skills in accounting systems and financial concepts will make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliation to maintain accurate financial records.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using QuickBooks.
Conduct account reconciliation tasks, ensuring all debits & credits align with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and governmental standards.
Utilize spreadsheets and Excel data analysis techniques to review financial data and prepare detailed reports.
Handle confidential information with integrity while performing data entry and bookkeeping duties efficiently.
Support controls related to compliance with governmental statutes and assist with audit preparations as needed.
Processing of weekly payroll and payroll related reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with strong knowledge of corporate accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and general ledger management.
Experience working with payroll systems like ADP or Kronos is highly desirable.
Strong numeracy skills coupled with excellent attention to detail for data entry and account analysis tasks.
Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while demonstrating high levels of accuracy in bookkeeping and balance sheet reconciliation.
Excellent communication skills along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
