Full Job Description

Pain and Palliative Associates is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing palliative care team serving the Prescott area. This unique position offers a Monday–Friday schedule with an approximately 50/50 blend of inpatient hospital consults and outpatient palliative care clinic, providing continuity of care across the healthcare continuum while working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with excellent earning potential for motivated providers who value autonomy, flexibility, and high-quality patient care.

Position Highlights

Monday–Friday schedule
Approximately 50% inpatient palliative care consultations and 50% outpatient palliative care clinic
No routine weekend coverage
Established referral base with immediate patient volume
Collaborative practice with fellowship-trained physicians and board-certified pain and palliative care providers
Comprehensive orientation, mentorship, and shadowing provided
Opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients, families, hospitals, and referring providers

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive inpatient palliative care consultations for patients with serious or life-limiting illnesses.
Conduct outpatient palliative care follow-up visits focused on symptom management, quality of life, and chronic disease support.
Manage complex symptoms including pain, dyspnea, nausea, anxiety, delirium, fatigue, constipation, and other distressing symptoms.
Facilitate goals-of-care discussions and advance care planning, including code status conversations and completion of advance directives when appropriate.
Educate patients and families regarding disease progression, treatment options, and hospice eligibility when appropriate.
Collaborate closely with hospitalists, specialists, primary care providers, nursing staff, case management, hospice agencies, and the interdisciplinary care team.
Coordinate smooth transitions of care between the hospital, outpatient clinic, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and home.
Complete timely, accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
Maintain strong relationships with referring providers while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

Current Arizona licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
National board certification.
Active DEA registration.
Current malpractice insurance.
Previous advanced practice experience preferred.
Experience in palliative care, hospice, internal medicine, hospital medicine, geriatrics, oncology, critical care, or pain management is strongly preferred.
Pain Management or Palliative Care board certification is preferred. Providers who are not currently certified will be expected to obtain pain management or palliative care board certification within 12 months of hire.

Compensation: $35 per patient encounter (1099 independent contractor). Providers typically see 10–30 patients per day, with an estimated earning potential of $90,000–$200,000+ annually, depending on productivity, clinic volume, and patient census. Established referral relationships provide immediate patient volume with continued growth opportunities.
