Sanu Care, Inc. — McLean, Northern Virginia
On-Site · Per Diem / Independent Contractor (1099) · Day & Night Shifts
Pay: $21.00 – 26.00 per hour (or more for at-home care)
Guide new families through the fourth trimester
Sanu is a postnatal retreat in Northern Virginia, reimagining how mothers and newborns are cared for in the tender weeks after birth. We're looking for experienced, warm-hearted Postpartum Doulas to join our team and deliver the kind of expert, nurturing care that helps families recover, bond, and find their footing.
As a Sanu doula, you are at the very heart of a mother's recovery. Working under the guidance of your Supervisor and alongside a close-knit care team, you'll provide skilled lactation support, restorative postpartum care, and steady reassurance — while keeping the team informed about each guest's progress, needs, and concerns.
Why Sanu?
Postpartum care is some of the most meaningful work there is. In these early weeks, a mother is exhausted, healing, and often overwhelmed — and your knowledge and calm presence change the entire arc of her experience. At Sanu, you'll see that impact directly: a mom who finally rests, a baby who latches, a family that leaves confident instead of anxious.
What makes Sanu different for the doulas who join us:
- Your expertise is truly valued. You're not squeezed between hospital rounds or racing between homes — you have the time and setting to give the thoughtful, individualized care you trained for.
- A serene, elevated place to practice. Sanu occupies a private floor of a full-service hotel — a calm, non-clinical environment designed to care for our caregivers as well as our guests.
- Meaningful work, every shift. You feel your impact immediately, in rested mothers and settled babies. Few roles offer that kind of human reward.
- Grow with a supportive team. Collaborate with experienced doulas and caregivers, with on-the-job training and a genuinely collaborative culture.
- Flexibility that respects your life. Per diem scheduling with day and night shifts.
Sanu is the modern village that surrounds new parents. As a doula, you help lead it.
What you'll do:
Care for mothers
- Partner closely with mothers to provide postpartum care and lactation support aligned with each personalized care plan.
- Build daily rhythms for mother and baby that encourage bonding, feeding, and rest.
- Offer holistic comfort and pain-management support, including sitz baths and other evidence-based postpartum practices.
- Manage and maintain breast pump equipment, and guide parents on safe breast milk storage and labeling.
- Respond warmly to guest requests and concerns, escalating anything beyond your scope.
- Prepare and stock guest rooms so each family arrives to a clean, ready space.
Care for babies
- Provide gentle newborn care and hands-on guidance to new parents — bathing, feeding, and diapering.
- Keep the baby room clean, sanitary, and fully stocked.
- Change crib linens regularly and report any changes in a baby's behavior to management.
Keep clear records
- Document guest assessments, care plans, interventions, responses, and follow-up accurately.
- Report significant changes in a guest's condition to your supervisor promptly.
- Maintain compliance with all documentation and regulatory standards.
- Complete tasks within scheduled timeframes and help foster a positive, collaborative environment.
What you'll bring:
- Doula and hands-on postpartum and newborn care experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (kept up to date).
- A high school diploma or GED (proof required upon hiring).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills — clear, kind, and concise.
- Strong teamwork, with proactive, collaborative contributions.
- Grace under pressure — the ability to navigate conflict and diverse personalities with warmth.
- A deep commitment to advancing maternal and newborn care, support, and education.
Nice to have: certifications in lactation or newborn care.
