Full Job Description

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

Position Overview:

The Controller is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial information while supporting overall company goals set by senior leadership. The Controller will also have responsibility for payroll administration.

The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll operations, financial close processes, and financial analysis. This position will partner closely with operational leaders to improve financial performance and support the continued growth of the organization.

Position Responsibilities:

Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and financial reporting.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

Support development of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations to leadership.
Monitor revenue, labor costs, operating expenses, and profitability metrics and report to leadership identified trends.
Develop and maintain key financial performance indicators for the accounting team.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banking partners, and insurance providers.
Support financial audits and provide required documentation as well as identify financial risks and recommend solutions.
Implement and maintain procedures to be GAAP audit compliant

Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

Lead and develop accounting team members while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with teams of different operational disciplines and backgrounds
Provide financial guidance to department leaders by proactively identifying and communicating profitability improvements across internal markets, including data regarding distributors, routes, technician performance, and other key operational areas.
Support process improvement initiatives across the organization.
Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence.
Ensure new members of the accounting department are properly trained to maintain all audit-related procedures
Help evaluate platforms and other services to determine whether they can improve efficiency, streamline processes, and are within budget.

Payroll Administration & Compliance

Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payroll delivery.
Manage payroll controls, including wage validation, deductions, tax compliance, garnishments, expenses, bonuses, commissions, and payroll reporting.
Partner with Human Resources to ensure payroll practices align with company policies and employment regulations.
Review payroll-related general ledger activity and ensure accurate reconciliation.
Support annual payroll processes including W-2 preparation, payroll audits, and regulatory filings.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
Manage monthly and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial dashboards.
Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Review account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial transactions.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automation, and reporting efficiency.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a leadership capacity.
Experience leading accounting operations in a multi-location or multi-state organization.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Experience managing payroll processes and payroll compliance.
Advanced proficiency with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide recommendations.
AR/AP experience including communication with vendors/customers.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Active CPA license or alternatively CMA, CGMA, or CIA license(s).
Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management.
Experience in a service-based, field operations, hospitality, or beverage environment.
Experience scaling finance processes during periods of company growth.
Experience with HRIS/payroll platforms such as Paylocity, Paycom, or similar systems.

Working Hours:

The Controller role is primarily a scheduled, office-based (or remote) position. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm; however, schedules may vary based on business needs. The Controller may be required to start early, adjust daily schedules, work occasional evenings or weekends, or assist with task coverage as assigned by the organization.

Salary:

Starting yearly salary: $120,000 - $140,000.00, commensurate with experience.
